In a July 14, 2025 report, MobileSyrup described layoffs affecting people employed by Foundever who had worked on its Rogers contract. The report did not establish an exact total: Foundever disputed a claim that 1,000 people were laid off without providing its own number, while an anonymous source familiar with Rogers’ call centres estimated around 900 affected employees. Rogers said it had changed its vendor mix, but said it was not moving away from human-led support.

How many Foundever workers were laid off?

There is no confirmed total in MobileSyrup’s July 14, 2025 report, “Former Rogers workers offer inside look at call centres amid layoffs”. The figures reported there describe different claims, not an agreed count.

Figure What it describes Attribution and qualification
Around 1,000 Canadians Initial reported scale of layoffs among people who had worked on Foundever’s Rogers contract MobileSyrup reported this figure; Foundever disputed that it had laid off 1,000 people and did not provide a total.
Around 900 call-centre employees Estimated number affected An anonymous person familiar with Rogers’ call centres gave this estimate to MobileSyrup and suspected other call centres had additional affected workers.
Roughly 400 online chat agents Chat-agent layoffs reported in February MobileSyrup included this as a separate figure; it should not be added to the other estimates as if the groups were confirmed to be distinct.

These were Foundever employees who had worked on the Rogers contract, not necessarily Rogers employees. The report does not reconcile the estimates or establish whether they overlap.

Why did Rogers change its call-centre vendor mix?

Rogers told MobileSyrup that customers were increasingly using digital tools and self-service, and that it had made “some changes to our vendor mix.” The company said it serves customers through its internal team and third-party partners, that most of its agents were based in Canada, and that its internal customer-service team was unaffected.

The report does not identify the specific business decision behind the vendor changes or explain which contractors, locations, or customer-support functions were affected. Rogers’ statement explains its rationale in broad terms; it does not establish a detailed cause for the Foundever layoffs.

Did AI replace the call-centre jobs?

The former workers interviewed by MobileSyrup suspected that Rogers’ support strategy was shifting toward automation. They pointed to call-tracking tools and the use of chatbots or virtual assistants at Fido. Rogers told MobileSyrup it was “not moving away from human-led support.”

The report does not show that AI caused the layoffs, nor does it establish that Rogers had moved to an AI-first support model. Use the workers’ comments as their interpretation of what they experienced, not as proof of the cause of the staffing changes. The article was published July 14, 2025, and does not establish current staffing, vendor relationships, or the present availability of automated or human support.

What did former agents say about working conditions?

Former workers told MobileSyrup they experienced short gaps between calls, monitoring of time away from their desks, pressure to upsell, and threats to job security. One unnamed former worker recalled being told they were “damaging the company” after not trying to upsell customers who wanted to cancel.

What do the reported figures say about Rogers’ broader workforce?

MobileSyrup placed the call-centre story alongside figures about Rogers’ wider workforce and its acquisition of Shaw. These figures concern different periods and claims; they are not a confirmed tally of Foundever contract layoffs.

Figure What MobileSyrup reported
3,000 jobs A Western Canada job-creation commitment tied to Rogers’ acquisition of Shaw.
1,800 jobs Jobs Rogers said it had created in Western Canada; the article noted another report suggested employee departures may have offset that number.
2,000 people Reported Rogers workforce shrinkage between 2023 and 2024.
3,000 to 5,000 Canadian jobs An approximate range MobileSyrup attributed to broader strategic shifts and other reporting, not a confirmed count of these call-centre layoffs.

The report says the net Western Canada job picture was unclear. The commitment, the company’s claimed job creation, and workforce-shrinkage figures measure different things and cannot be combined into a single net result from the information reported.

Can customers still reach a person at Fido or Chatr?

The July 2025 article is not a current directory of support channels. It attributes claims about support closures affecting Chatr and Fido to a source familiar with operations and gives examples of customer difficulties, but it does not establish the current availability of human support for either brand. Customers should check the relevant brand’s official support channels for current contact options.
