What did the former employee change on the menus?
According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Florida, Scheuer accessed his former employer’s computer systems after his termination and changed allergen details on restaurant menus. The changes made some food appear safe for customers with certain allergies when it was not, the office said in its January 23, 2025 announcement of his guilty plea: U.S. Attorney’s Office plea announcement.
The menu tampering was one part of a broader set of intrusions. The same plea announcement said Scheuer also changed wine-region information to locations of recent mass shootings and carried out denial-of-service attacks intended to lock employees out of their accounts.
Was anyone served food with false allergy information?
The available reporting does not establish that anyone ate food affected by the false information. The Associated Press reported on October 31, 2024, based on the criminal complaint, that Disney detected the changes before the menus were shipped to restaurants. AP also reported that the menu-creation system was taken offline for more than a week. Those detection and system-outage details were reported in connection with the complaint, rather than in the later federal sentencing announcement: Associated Press report.

What was the plea and sentence?
On January 23, 2025, the U.S. Attorney’s Office announced Scheuer had pleaded guilty to one count of knowingly transmitting a program, code, or command to a protected computer and intentionally causing damage without authorization, and one count of aggravated identity theft. On April 24, 2025, the office announced he was sentenced to three years in federal prison and ordered to pay $687,776.50 in restitution: U.S. Attorney’s Office sentencing announcement.
The sentencing release said the FBI Tampa Division’s Orlando Resident Agency Criminal Intrusion Cyber Squad investigated the case and Assistant U.S. Attorney Robert D. Sowell prosecuted it. It also quoted FBI Tampa Division Special Agent in Charge Matthew Fodor saying the bureau’s private-sector partnerships helped identify Scheuer and disrupt his ability to continue threatening the public.
