It led the Tesla Cybertruck, but the ranking was not a sign of growth: Lightning sales were down 16.7% from the first half of 2024. And Ford’s December 2025 plan to stop making the fully electric version changed the truck’s future outlook, not its historical first-half ranking.
Which electric pickup sold the most in the U.S. in the first half of 2025?
The F-150 Lightning led the five-model comparison, with 13,029 U.S. sales in H1 2025. The Tesla Cybertruck was second at 10,712, followed by the Chevrolet Silverado EV, Rivian R1T, and GMC Sierra EV. These are model-level vehicle volumes, not a comparison of global sales or full-year results.
| Model | U.S. H1 2025 sales | Figure basis |
|---|---|---|
| Ford F-150 Lightning | 13,029 | Ford-reported |
| Tesla Cybertruck | 10,712 | Analyst estimate reproduced in automotive sales coverage; Tesla does not break out model-line sales |
| Chevrolet Silverado EV | 5,439 | Reported in automotive sales coverage |
| Rivian R1T | 3,479 | Analyst estimate reproduced in comparative reporting; Rivian does not publish this model-level split |
| GMC Sierra EV | 2,773 | Reported in automotive sales coverage |
The figures and ranking are reported by Carscoops’ H1 comparison; Ford’s Lightning volume is also in Ford’s July 2025 sales release. The Cybertruck and R1T totals are estimates, not manufacturer-reported model-line counts, so the ranking is useful but not every entry has the same disclosure basis.
Did the Lightning’s lead reflect sales growth?
No. Ford reported 13,029 Lightning sales for H1 2025, down 16.7% from 15,645 in H1 2024. The truck led the listed competitors while selling fewer units than it had a year earlier: ranking and year-over-year momentum are separate measures.

The quarter-by-quarter figures help explain the H1 result. The Cybertruck led the Q1 comparison, but in Q2 the Lightning recorded 5,842 sales against 4,306 for the Cybertruck, 3,056 for the Silverado EV, 1,752 for the R1T, and 1,524 for the Sierra EV. That Q2 advantage moved the Lightning ahead for the full half-year. The model comparisons are reported in Carscoops’ H1 coverage and Ford’s sales release.
How did the pickup ranking compare with the wider EV market?
The broader market was mixed. Cox Automotive and Kelley Blue Book counted 607,089 new EV sales in the U.S. during H1 2025, 1.5% more than in H1 2024. Q2 alone had 310,839 sales, down 6.3% year over year. KBB’s total excludes super exotics.
Rank #2
- Brand new box. Real rubber tires. Opening hood and doors. Made of diecast with some plastic parts. Detailed interior, exterior, engine compartment. Dimensions approximately L-8.25, W-3.5, H-3.5 inches.
Those figures put the Lightning’s decline in context without explaining its cause: overall EV sales rose slightly for the half, while the second quarter fell year over year and the Lightning itself declined. Cox Automotive’s Q2 2025 EV sales report provides the market totals. The available figures do not establish why individual customers chose one pickup over another or whether any model was profitable.
What Ford’s broader electrified-vehicle figure does—and does not—mean
Ford reported 156,509 “electrified” vehicle sales in H1 2025, up 14.7%. That total includes hybrids, plug-in hybrids, and electric vehicles; it is not Ford’s battery-electric-only sales volume. Ford separately reported 117,521 hybrids and said its three EV nameplates averaged 12,996 sales each through June. Neither number should be substituted for the Lightning’s 13,029 model sales. The details are in Ford’s July 2025 release.

What changed for the Lightning after the first-half sales period?
In December 2025, Ford said it would stop making the fully electric F-150 Lightning and offer an extended-range version instead, according to The Associated Press. This later strategy announcement is relevant to the model’s future, but it does not change the January–June sales count or the first-half ranking.
The distinction matters for readers comparing historical sales with current product plans: the 2025 H1 leaderboard describes vehicles sold during that period, while Ford’s December announcement describes a subsequent change in its approach to the Lightning.
