That account raises a real question about how an erased iPhone is evaluated—but it does not prove that Flipkart ran a scam or that its agents commonly manipulate inspections.
What the customer says happened
In an account published on September 22, 2025, DroidWin’s author described exchanging an iPhone 14 Plus while ordering a Google Pixel 10 Pro XL through Flipkart. The author says the iPhone had an estimated exchange value of about ₹32,000 and was reset, with the Apple Account removed, before pickup. Read the published account.
According to the author, a delivery agent used an inspection device running Flipkart Reset Pulse. The author says the screen, touch, proximity, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS and camera checks passed, but “Biometric Check” failed. The resulting adjustment reportedly added about ₹6,500 to the amount payable.
The author says they set up Face ID again and asked for a retest, which then passed. The agent allegedly said the first report had already been submitted and could not be changed for 24 hours. The author also says the order was cancelled despite customer-service assurances of another delivery attempt, with the cancellation attributed to an “unexpected issue.” The author said they planned to approach the consumer court; the account does not establish that a case was filed or its outcome.

These are the customer’s reported experiences, not independently verified inspection logs or order records. Flipkart’s public service information confirms doorstep inspection and condition-based valuation, but does not confirm the details of this incident.
Does a failed biometric check prove a scam?
No. The account supports a disputed inspection result and a reported loss of exchange value followed by a cancellation. It does not establish that Flipkart deliberately caused the failure, that the agent manipulated the test, or that this is a recurring company-wide practice. “Scam” is the customer’s characterization, not a proven finding.

Three explanations remain distinct:
- A technical or workflow problem: A reset may have left Face ID unenrolled, or the inspection app may have expected an enrolled biometric. The customer’s reported sequence—failure after reset, then a passing retest after Face ID was set up—makes this plausible, but does not prove causation.
- An inspection process that prevents retesting: The agent may have been following a workflow that locked the first report. The available account does not independently confirm that rule or show the system logs.
- Intentional misconduct: The author expresses suspicion about the inspection, but no independent evidence establishes deliberate manipulation or fraud.
Other possible reasons for an order cancellation include an exchange-validation, inventory, payment, offer or system issue. The public account does not provide enough underlying records to determine which explanation applies.
Why a reset iPhone can complicate a Face ID test
Face ID’s hardware and the owner’s enrolled Face ID are not the same thing. Erasing an iPhone removes user data and biometric enrollment. The owner must set up Face ID again before using it to unlock the phone or authenticate in supported situations. A phone with no enrolled face may therefore be difficult for a test that expects the owner to demonstrate biometric authentication, even if the TrueDepth camera and related hardware are not defective.

But “Biometric Check” could mean several different things: checking whether Face ID is enrolled, asking the owner to authenticate, assessing the TrueDepth camera, or running another diagnostic. Apple documents protections around device services and diagnostic access, including authenticated pairing and trust relationships, but that does not identify what Flipkart Reset Pulse tests or prove that third-party diagnostics cannot assess Face ID hardware. Apple Platform Security documentation does not resolve how this particular inspection works.
The key question is: What does Reset Pulse mean by “Biometric Check,” and what state must an iPhone be in for it to pass? The available public material does not answer that. A failed app result alone does not establish that Face ID hardware is broken. Relevant evidence would include whether Face ID can be set up and unlock the phone, whether the phone reports that Face ID is unavailable, and what the inspection’s test and logs actually show.

The reset-and-inspection timing problem
Flipkart describes Reset as a service involving doorstep evaluation, device- and condition-based valuation, IMEI or device-identity checks, and data wiping. Its Reset service page presents an estimate and a final assessment; the initial exchange quote is not necessarily the final value.
Flipkart’s return policy says mobile devices should be formatted and screen locks disabled, and that iCloud lock must be disabled for Apple devices. Those are return-policy instructions; they do not, by themselves, specify the exact preparation sequence for every exchange inspection. Still, the published instructions and the reported incident highlight a practical conflict: erasing a device removes Face ID enrollment, while an inspection may ask the owner to prove biometric function.

The public pages do not state whether Face ID must remain enrolled during a Reset Pulse check, whether an erased device can be tested through another method, or whether a failed biometric result can be rerun before the report is submitted. Customers should seek a clear answer through the order’s official support channel rather than assume either that enrollment must be preserved or that an unenrolled phone will pass.
How to protect your exchange and your data
Before erasing the iPhone
- Back up the phone to iCloud or a computer. Check that photos, messages, contacts and other important data are included.
- Handle authenticator accounts and eSIM details before erasure; confirm how you will recover access and transfer service.
- Record the IMEI and serial number, and photograph the display, back, edges, camera lenses and ports.
- If Face ID works, make a short demonstration before erasing, showing it unlock the phone and authenticate in supported apps. Keep the recording private and secure.
- Save screenshots of the order, exchange quote, order ID and any offer terms. If the discount is time-sensitive or limited to one use, preserve the relevant terms.
- Ask Flipkart support, in writing, whether Face ID should remain enrolled until the inspection or whether the phone must be erased first. Keep the response with your order records.
During the inspection
- Stay present and ask the agent to show each test and its result before submitting the report.
- If “Biometric Check” appears, ask what it tests: enrollment, authentication, camera or hardware diagnostics, or something else.
- Ask for a retest while the phone is still in your possession if a result seems inconsistent with the phone’s condition.
- Keep a screenshot or copy of the inspection report and the final valuation. Record or photograph the inspection only where lawful and appropriate.
- Do not hand over the device until the final valuation and handover terms are clear. Never leave Activation Lock enabled when surrendering an Apple device.
If a check fails or the order is at risk
- Ask the agent to explain the failure in writing and request a retest before the report is finalized.
- Contact Flipkart promptly through the order’s official support channel. State the order ID, the test that failed, the revised amount and whether a one-time offer is at stake.
- Save chat transcripts, call details, screenshots, inspection reports and cancellation notices. Ask support to confirm in writing whether the original offer or exchange terms can be preserved.
- Do not rely only on a verbal promise that the order will remain active. If the order is cancelled, save the cancellation reason and ask support to explain the next steps before placing a replacement order that could consume another one-time offer or complicate the records.
These steps help preserve evidence and clarify the terms; they are not evidence that Flipkart or an agent committed fraud.
What Flipkart should clarify
A clear public explanation of the inspection would help customers prepare their phones and understand disputed results. The unresolved questions are specific:
- What does Reset Pulse’s “Biometric Check” measure on an iPhone?
- Must Face ID be enrolled at the time of inspection, or can hardware be assessed after the phone has been erased?
- Can the customer see the result and request a retest before the report is submitted?
- Can the customer obtain the inspection report and the reason for a failed test?
- What escalation route applies when an agent refuses a retest or a cancellation threatens a one-time offer?
- How does Flipkart preserve an eligible offer when an exchange-related cancellation is disputed?
How to judge the evidence
The customer’s sequence is consistent with a possible mismatch between erasure and biometric inspection, but the inspection method and logs are unavailable. The available evidence does not show whether the phone had a hardware fault, whether the app required enrollment, whether the agent could rerun the test, or why the order was cancelled. Nor does it establish how often this happens.
For an individual customer, the most useful evidence is a visible retest, a written explanation of the test result, the inspection report, and support correspondence tied to the order. For a broader claim of a scam, evidence of intent or a recurring pattern would be needed; one disputed account does not establish either.
