Fishy Fishy Aubin Grove: Why Its Owner Stopped Selling Fish and Chips

Fishy Fishy owner Danny Arnold said he stopped serving fish and chips in Aubin Grove, sold his last shop and does not plan to bring the dish back. He blamed rising food, power and interest costs, saying price increases still did not make the business viable. That is Arnold’s account of his decision—not an audited finding or evidence that fish and chips is unprofitable for every operator.

Why did Fishy Fishy Aubin Grove stop selling fish and chips?

In a PerthNow report published on 11 December 2025, reporter Ibanez Taylor said Arnold had spent 17 years in the fish-and-chips business and operated five shops across Western Australia. Arnold said he had stopped fish-and-chips service in Aubin Grove and sold his last shop. “I’ve been doing fish and chips for 17 years but there’s no money in it anymore,” he said.

Arnold attributed the decision to costs that had risen since 2023, including food, electricity and interest. He said increasing menu prices had not been enough to make the economics work: “Everyone increases prices but it still isn’t enough to get by.” The report does not include business accounts or independently verified figures, so these are the owner’s explanations, not measured profit or loss data.

What is Arnold doing instead?

Arnold said his focus had shifted to donuts, which he described as an experiment that grew into a broader food offer. PerthNow reported that the donut concept first ran as a virtual Uber Eats restaurant in Baldivis and that the wider offer included coffee, ice cream, pizza and continental rolls. Arnold said: “I stopped doing fish and chips in Aubin Grove. I sold the last shop and now my focus is on donuts.” That report does not establish the current menu or ownership of the Aubin Grove premises.

Is Fishy Fishy Aubin Grove still open?

The location’s status and operator are unresolved. Arnold’s reported sale concerns his last shop, but it does not by itself establish whether the premises later closed or continued under a new owner.

  • Fishy Fishy’s official About us page and contact page describe the business in Aubin Grove, Bertram and Baldivis. The pages are undated and do not clarify what happened after the sale Arnold described.
  • A FindGlocal Aubin Grove listing was crawled in October 2026, includes posts dated through 1 October and describes the listing as open. It does not identify the present operator, and its fish-and-chips wording may not reflect a current menu.
  • Uber Eats marked the Aubin Grove listing closed on that platform as of 31 July 2025. That indicates platform availability only; it does not establish whether the physical location was open or who owned it.

Together, these listings do not confirm whether a successor took over, whether the business or menu changed, or whether online profiles are stale. Check directly with the business before relying on an online listing for current opening hours or food options.

What the story does—and does not—show about fish-and-chips costs

Arnold’s comments point to a familiar business challenge: raising prices may not offset rising operating costs if customers resist further increases or costs keep climbing. But the PerthNow account provides no cost breakdown, sales figures, profit margins or customer data. It cannot show how much any one expense contributed to the decision, or establish that other fish-and-chips shops face the same finances.

The report also mentions Western Australian demersal fishing restrictions in connection with possible fish-price effects. It does not establish those restrictions as the cause of Arnold’s decision. Without verified policy details or evidence linking the restrictions to his costs, that point should be treated as context in the report, not as a demonstrated explanation.
