If your First Data FD130 will not process transactions, first identify whether it connects through the internet or a phone line, then check that service. For a blank receipt, check the thermal paper’s orientation and fit. Error-code fixes and configuration changes depend on the merchant’s payment processor, so confirm those steps with the provider that supports your account.

Start with the symptom and connection

Different FD130 problems call for different checks. Note the exact message on screen, what the terminal is doing, whether it uses Ethernet or a phone line, and any recent changes. Share those details with your payment processor if you need support. Do not include terminal credentials or cardholder data in a public support request.

  • Transactions fail or the terminal cannot communicate: check the internet or phone-line path that the terminal uses.
  • Paper feeds but the receipt is blank: check the thermal paper’s orientation.
  • Paper will not feed or the cover will not close: check how the roll is seated and whether it is compatible.
  • An error code appears: record it exactly and ask your processor for the applicable procedure.

The FD130 setup instructions describe Ethernet/IP and telephone-line connections. The appropriate troubleshooting path depends on which one your merchant account uses; an internet fix will not resolve a paper problem or a phone-line fault.

Why is my FD130 not processing transactions?

Check the communication service first, then use only the restart steps that match your setup. A provider checklist for Clark Brands merchants recommends checking internet access, restarting the modem or router, and power-cycling the terminal for internet-processing problems. This is that provider’s guidance, not a diagnosis for every FD130 or merchant account.

If the terminal uses internet processing

  1. Check internet service: see whether other devices can reach the internet. If they cannot, address the network or service outage with the appropriate provider.
  2. Check the Ethernet connection: setup instructions describe connecting Ethernet to the terminal’s yellow port and a numbered router port. The Ethernet cable is sold separately, according to the setup page. Replace a cable only if it is missing or damaged; a new cable will not fix an internet outage, account configuration problem, or processor outage.
  3. Restart the modem or router: Clark Brands’ checklist recommends this for its merchants.
  4. Restart the terminal: for the same internet-processing case, Clark Brands advises unplugging terminal power for approximately 10 seconds, reconnecting it, and allowing it to restart fully.
  5. Contact your processor: if transactions still fail, use the support contact provided for your merchant account.

If the terminal uses a phone line

  1. Confirm the phone cable is connected to the terminal.
  2. Check whether the line has a dial tone. If there is none, contact the phone service provider.
  3. If the line works but the FD130 still cannot process, contact your merchant processor’s support team.

An archived getting-started manual describes a dedicated line as a possible requirement for the selected dial-up setup. Check with your processor about the requirements for your actual configuration rather than assuming every FD130 needs a dedicated line.

Before trying another transaction

A restart does not establish whether a transaction was approved. If the terminal lost communication during a sale or settlement and the status is unclear, check with the processor before retrying; doing so helps avoid an accidental duplicate charge. Avoid interrupting power while a transaction or settlement is in progress.

How to fix a blank receipt or paper-feed issue

The FD130 uses a thermal printer, which prints on heat-sensitive paper rather than with ink. Open the printer bay, seat a compatible roll, leave a short length of paper protruding, and close the cover fully. Then tear off the excess.

If the terminal feeds paper but prints nothing

Check that the thermal print side faces the correct direction. Backward installation can result in blank output. Provider instructions describe the print side facing the operator, but check the instructions for your terminal or paper supplier if you are unsure.

If the roll does not fit or feed properly

Coccard specifies thermal receipt rolls measuring 2 1/4 inches by 80 feet. Confirm the required dimensions with your merchant’s supplier before ordering, since paper requirements may vary by provider. Replacing paper is a consumable issue; it does not by itself indicate a terminal fault.

What to do about FD130 error codes

Error-code articles exist for several FD130 issues, but a code’s presence in a support index does not establish that a procedure will work for every processor. Paysafe’s First Data support index, for example, lists articles for “Datawire Error 1007 (VXN Error 52/53),” ping testing, Wi-Fi setup, keypad testing, and terminal setup. Use the support material for the provider that actually handles your account.

Datawire Error 1007 (VXN Error 52/53)

Record the message and give it to your processor. The available Paysafe index confirms a dedicated support topic for this error, but does not establish universal repair steps. Do not apply a procedure found for another provider’s configuration without checking first.

VXN Error 13

Gravity Payments publishes a procedure for its own supported terminals. Because menu options and configuration can differ among providers, do not treat another processor’s instructions as universal. Ask your processor to verify the exact steps before changing terminal settings.

When configuration changes need provider approval

Changes to DID or other terminal settings can affect how the device communicates with the processor. Contact your processor before using a menu path, password, or configuration instruction from another provider. The same applies when a code persists after the relevant connection check or when transaction status is uncertain.

When to contact your payment processor

Contact the support team listed for your merchant account when basic connection checks do not restore processing, an error remains on screen, a transaction’s approval status is unclear, or a fix would change terminal configuration. Provide the exact message, connection type, and recent changes. Support numbers and hours published for one provider apply to that provider’s merchants, not all FD130 users.

Sources and scope

The procedures above draw on provider and reseller support materials and an archived getting-started manual, rather than a verified current manufacturer troubleshooting manual. Connection setup, paper requirements, error handling, passwords, support contacts, and menus can vary by merchant provider. Confirm account-specific instructions with the processor that supports your terminal.
