Fins Bicton is a seafood shop, restaurant and bar at Shop 10/258 Canning Highway. In Simon Collins’s February 2025 PerthNow review, its prawn po’ boy and yabbies stood out, but limited, cramped seating made takeaway a practical consideration. His verdict was enthusiastic; the claim that it could be Perth’s best is a reviewer’s opinion, not an established ranking.
What is Fins Bicton?
Fins Seafood describes its Bicton outlet as a retail, restaurant and bar venue. The format gives diners access to seafood-shop offerings as well as prepared meals. The WA Good Food Guide likewise characterizes it as a compact fishmonger and casual restaurant, and highlights fish and chips alongside other seafood dishes.
That makes Fins a more ambitious proposition than a conventional fish-and-chip counter, though it is still casual dining rather than a formal seafood restaurant. The PerthNow review describes a cabinet of fish fillets, mostly from around Western Australia, as well as oysters and other seafood. The selection can change, so the review is a snapshot rather than a promise of what will be available on a future visit.
What did the reviewer like—and what was less successful?
Simon Collins’s February 2025 review was strongly positive overall, particularly about the prawn po’ boy and the yabbies. He also sampled a range of dishes that show the menu’s breadth:
#1 Best Overall
- Standouts: the prawn po’ boy and yabbies served with Marie Rose sauce and small pancakes.
- Seafood and sides: Albany rock oysters with pickled chilli sauce, Abrolhos Island scallops, crumbed whiting and chips, and roasted asparagus with salted chilli and labneh.
- More unusual choices: an octopus hotdog, a tuna-and-cheese spring roll and lobster dumplings.
The review found the octopus hotdog divisive and the spring roll less successful than most of the meal. Specials and particular fish varieties may not recur, and the review does not establish that each named dish remains on the menu. The WA Good Food Guide separately mentions the prawn po’ boy, tuna cheeseburger, fish and chips, and other seafood; that corroborates the general menu character, not current availability of any one dish.
Is it better for dining in or takeaway?
For Collins’s visit, dine-in seating was limited: he described four cramped tables near the car park and a strong takeaway trade. That is an observation from February 2025, not a current seating audit, but it is worth weighing if a comfortable sit-down meal is important to you. Takeaway may suit diners who want the food without relying on a small dining area.
The review said bookings were unavailable at the time. That does not confirm the venue’s current booking policy, so contact Fins directly if you need a table or are planning around a particular time.
What does it cost?
The review’s menu prices are historical and date from February 2025; they should not be treated as current prices. At that visit, Collins reported that a customer could choose a fish fillet from the cabinet to be cooked for an additional $12 over market price. Both that arrangement and its price may have changed. Check the current menu and ask about market-priced fish before ordering.
Location, contact and published hours
Fins Seafood lists the Bicton venue at Shop 10/258 Canning Highway, Bicton, and gives its phone number as 08 6361 1895. The official contact page publishes these restaurant hours:
| Days | Restaurant hours published by Fins |
|---|---|
| Monday–Wednesday | 4:00pm–9:00pm |
| Thursday–Sunday | 11:00am–late |
The same page lists separate retail hours of Monday–Sunday, 7:30am–6:00pm. The official pages do not show when those hours were last updated, so verify them with the venue before travelling, especially if you are visiting near opening or closing time.
Rank #4
Who is Fins Bicton a good fit for?
- Go if: you want a casual seafood meal with a broader selection than standard fish and chips, and you are interested in dishes such as the prawn po’ boy or yabbies.
- Consider takeaway if: you prefer more space or want to avoid relying on the limited seating reported in the 2025 review.
- Check first if: you are going for a specific special, need a booking, want to know current prices, or are relying on the published hours.
Collins’s “could be the best in Perth” framing captures his enthusiasm, not a measured comparison with other restaurants. The available coverage supports describing Fins as a distinctive seafood-focused casual venue; it does not establish an objective citywide ranking.
