RR Kabel is the larger company by FY2026 revenue, while Finolex Cables’ reported electrical-cable margin was higher. But the more useful distinction is strategic: RR is expanding capacity and seeking better margins at scale; Finolex is leaning on specialised cables, communication products and optical fibre. Neither set of figures establishes which stock will perform better.
How the businesses differ
Finolex Cables
Finolex sells electrical cables, communication cables and other products. Its FY2024–25 annual report recorded 6.6% growth in electrical-cable revenue, marginal degrowth in communication cables and 13.7% growth in other products. Exports were ₹30.7 crore that year. These figures describe FY2024–25, not the later FY2026 comparison. Finolex Cables’ FY2024–25 annual report

RR Kabel
RR Kabel has two main segments: Wires & Cables and Fast-Moving Electrical Goods (FMEG), including fans, lighting, switches and appliances. Its FY2024–25 annual report described a lower-double-digit market share in housing wire. FMEG diversifies the portfolio, but it has also been a source of losses, as the FY2026 comparison shows.
FY2026 scale and revenue mix
Value Research’s FY2026 comparison reports higher consolidated revenue for RR Kabel. Segment figures need care: Finolex’s copper-rods revenue is substantially internal and eliminated on consolidation, so it should not be added to the company’s consolidated total.
#1 Best Overall
| Measure | Finolex Cables | RR Kabel |
|---|---|---|
| FY2026 consolidated revenue | ₹6,321 crore | ₹9,722 crore |
| FY2026 relevant segment revenue | Electrical cables: ₹5,490 crore | Wires & Cables: ₹8,764 crore |
| Other reported mix detail | Copper rods: ₹2,143 crore, much of it internal and eliminated on consolidation | Wires & Cables contributed about 90% of total revenue |
All figures in this table are reported by Value Research for FY2026. Segment revenue is not a substitute for consolidated revenue, and the companies’ segment definitions are not identical.
Growth plans: capacity versus product mix
RR Kabel is pursuing scale
RR Kabel’s Project RRISE centers on expanding capacity, particularly in cables. Value Research reports cable-plant utilisation at around 90%, compared with 65–70% for wire plants, and says the company targets capacity at about 1.7 times current levels by FY2028. It also reports a ₹1,200 crore capex plan. These are expansion plans, not proof that the new capacity will earn attractive returns.
RR Kabel’s FY2024–25 annual report set Project RRISE goals for FY2025–26 through FY2027–28: 18% CAGR in Wires & Cables revenue, 25% CAGR in FMEG revenue, and a goal to increase EBITDA to 2.5 times. These are company targets, not achieved results.

Finolex is emphasizing specialised products and optical fibre
Finolex’s FY2024–25 annual report described a ₹500 crore capital-expenditure commitment over 18 months for capacity at Urse and Goa, backward integration and optical-fibre cable expansion, with completion expected by Q4 FY2025–26. That is a dated plan; it does not by itself establish which projects have since been completed.
Value Research reports that Finolex’s communication segment generated ₹500 crore in FY2026 revenue but only ₹14 crore in profit. It says the segment improved sharply in Q1 FY2027, while noting that unusually cheap older fibre inventory benefited margin. That one-quarter effect should not be treated as a durable margin level.
Margins: compare like with like
Value Research reports FY2026 EBIT margin of 8.9% for RR Kabel’s Wires & Cables segment, up from 7.4% in FY2025. Management’s reported goal is about 10.5% by FY2028. For Finolex, the comparison reports a little over 10% EBIT margin in electrical cables in FY2026.
Rank #3
Those figures are segment-level measures, and the segment labels differ. They suggest a margin advantage for Finolex’s electrical cables in that comparison, but they do not establish a like-for-like company-wide profitability ranking. RR’s FY2028 figure is a target, not a reported result.

Value Research’s FY2026 comparison puts exports at about 26% of RR Kabel revenue and around 1% of Finolex revenue. That gives RR greater reported international exposure, alongside exposure to the risks of serving overseas markets.
The same comparison says Finolex exports in Q1 FY2027 were roughly ₹50 crore, nearly matching the ₹55 crore reported for the preceding full year. A single quarter and a full financial year are different periods; the figures indicate a sharp quarterly pace, not a full-year result or guaranteed run rate.

Cash generation, investment and execution risks
Finolex: working capital and delivery
Value Research reports FY2026 operating cash flow of ₹49 crore for Finolex despite standalone PAT of ₹623 crore, attributing the gap to working-capital absorption. Profit and cash generation can diverge when funds are tied up in operations; investors may want to track whether cash conversion improves as the business grows.
The investment case for specialised cables, exports and optical fibre depends on those areas becoming meaningful contributors to earnings, not just capacity or revenue. Project completion and subsequent utilisation matter.

RR Kabel’s expansion carries the risk that added capacity takes time to fill or earns inadequate returns, particularly as competitors also add capacity. The stated capex plan and margin target are ambitions; the key test is whether utilisation and margins rise enough to justify the investment.

RR Kabel FMEG: diversification with losses
Value Research reports FY2026 FMEG revenue of ₹959 crore and says the segment remained loss-making for the full year, although it reached operating breakeven in Q1 FY2027. It also reports that about two-thirds of production is outsourced. The quarterly breakeven is not the same as full-year profitability.

The latest detailed official annual-report figures in the cited material are for FY2024–25, so keep them separate from the FY2026 comparison:
| Company | FY2024–25 revenue | Reported context |
|---|---|---|
| Finolex Cables | ₹5,318.9 crore | Up 6%; the company reported no debt |
| RR Kabel | ₹7,618.2 crore | Up 15.5% year over year |
These FY2024–25 figures come from the respective companies’ annual reports and should not be mixed with Value Research’s later FY2026 comparison as though they were from the same year.

What the comparison does—and does not—tell you
The FY2026 numbers and strategy details above are reported by Value Research, a secondary source. RR Kabel’s reporting page lists FY2025–26 annual reporting and Q1 FY2026–27 materials; those documents are useful for checking current results and project progress. The detailed official annual-report evidence cited here for Finolex is FY2024–25, so its dated project commitments should not be presented as confirmed current status.
For a personal-finance decision, the comparison is a way to frame follow-up questions, not a stock recommendation. Consider whether you are assessing revenue growth, segment profitability, cash conversion, export exposure or returns on new capacity; each points to a different part of the companies’ performance.
