Short answer: Fido currently advertises a $5-per-month saving on the second line when you add friends or family online with an eSIM. However, the visible offer copy on Fido’s promotions page does not independently confirm that this second-line discount lasts 24 months.
The 24-month figure is clearly associated with separate Fido Payment Program device-financing promotions. Before signing up, check whether the $5 is a recurring plan discount, a device bill credit, or another promotion—and confirm its duration in your personalized checkout summary and service agreement.

What Fido is advertising
Fido’s current public promotion says customers can save $5 per month on their second line when adding friends or family to their plan online with an eSIM.
That wording establishes four important conditions:

- The discount is associated with the second line, not necessarily the primary line.
- The line is added for a friend or family member.
- The activation is completed online.
- An eSIM is required according to the visible promotion copy.
It does not, by itself, establish that every additional line qualifies, that physical-SIM activations are eligible, or that the credit continues for exactly 24 months. The offer may also vary by account, province, plan, activation type, and campaign.
Why the “24 months” claim can be misleading
Fido separately offers device financing through the Fido Payment Program. The program generally spreads an approved device purchase across 24 monthly payments at 0% interest when the customer has an eligible postpaid plan.
Some device promotions apply monthly bill credits that reduce the displayed device or wireless charge. That $5 credit can look similar to a plan discount, but it may be tied to:

- a particular phone, tablet, or mobile-internet device;
- a specific financing agreement;
- a qualifying plan or activation;
- the period during which the financing agreement remains active; or
- another condition such as automatic payments.
Fido’s tablet listings, for example, show prices “after bill credit” while separately identifying the required data-only plan. A discounted device payment is not the same as a $5 reduction in the service-plan price.
Bottom line on duration: the public promotion page confirms the $5 second-line offer, but the visible copy reviewed does not confirm a 24-month term for that particular discount. Treat 24 months as applicable only when the individual offer or agreement explicitly says so.
How much could you save?
If a $5 credit genuinely applies for 24 complete months, the nominal saving is:

$5 × 24 months = $120 before tax
That is a maximum calculation, not a guarantee. You receive $120 only if you remain eligible for all 24 months and the promotion’s terms provide that duration. The additional line still has its own monthly charge, so the discount is not a net saving unless you actually need that second line.

Taxes, activation or setup charges, shipping, down payments, device protection, add-ons, roaming, and overage charges can also affect the real cost. Fido’s promotion pages state that taxes are extra, and some device offers display a $40 Device Setup Charge may apply notice. That charge should be treated as offer-specific rather than a universal fee on every Fido activation.
Who may qualify?
For the second-line promotion, the public wording confirms online activation and eSIM requirements but does not provide enough visible detail to promise universal eligibility. Check whether your offer applies to the exact line and plan you are ordering.

Eligibility can depend on:
- whether you are a new or existing Fido customer;
- whether the line is the second line on the account or another added line;
- the plan and number of lines already on the account;
- eSIM compatibility and activation method;
- online versus store ordering;
- phone, tablet, or mobile-internet service;
- new activation versus an upgrade;
- bring-your-own-device versus financed-device status;
- province or territory;
- credit approval; and
- customer-targeted or limited-time campaign terms.
For the Payment Program, Fido says new and existing postpaid mobile customers may qualify subject to approval and an eligible plan. Some devices may require a down payment, particularly depending on the device price or credit assessment. See Fido’s plans page for current plan options, but rely on the checkout screen for the exact promotion attached to your account.
What happens if you change plans or cancel?
A plan discount and a device-financing credit can have different consequences.
According to Fido’s Payment Program explanation, the agreement can be cancelled and the outstanding device balance charged if you:

- cancel Fido service;
- transfer service to another Fido account or provider;
- upgrade to a new phone with a new Payment Program agreement; or
- switch to a plan that is not eligible for the Payment Program.
That does not necessarily mean every plan change creates an early-termination fee. It does mean you should distinguish between losing a promotional credit, paying the remaining device balance early, losing a service-plan discount, and paying separate activation or other charges. The exact result depends on the relevant promotion and agreements.
Also check these scenarios before ordering:
- Physical SIM: an activation that does not meet the eSIM condition may not trigger the second-line offer.
- Early cancellation: the second-line credit may stop, and any financed device balance may become due.
- Upgrade or trade-in: a new financing agreement can end the old one and change the remaining balance.
- Cheaper or BYOD plan: the new plan may be ineligible for a device promotion.
- Auto-Pay cancellation: a separate automatic-payment credit, if any, may disappear.
- Lost or stolen device: financing obligations generally do not automatically disappear.
- Plan-price change: a promotion’s credit term is not necessarily a guarantee that the underlying plan price will remain unchanged.
What happens after month 24?
For a completed Fido Payment Program agreement, Fido says the device is paid off after 24 months. Beginning in month 25, the device-financing charge ends, while the regular wireless plan and other services continue.
Do not assume this means a service-plan discount continues—or that every $5 credit ends at the same time. A device payment, device credit, second-line discount, and wireless plan are separate billing items. Check the end date for each one.

- Open the relevant offer on Fido’s promotions page or through your personalized account.
- Identify where the $5 appears: plan credits, multi-line discounts, device financing credits, or automatic-payment discounts.
- Confirm the exact number of months the credit applies.
- Check whether online ordering and eSIM activation are mandatory.
- Confirm whether it applies only to the second line or to every additional line.
- Record the regular price before discounts and the post-promotion price.
- Check whether taxes are calculated before or after the credit.
- Review any setup fee, shipping charge, down payment, protection plan, and add-ons.
- Read both the service agreement and, if applicable, the Payment Program Agreement.
- Ask what happens if you change plans, cancel Auto-Pay, replace the device, cancel the line, or port out.
- Save a screenshot or PDF of the offer and checkout summary.
- Compare the first bill with the promised credits and contact Fido promptly if a credit is missing.
Is the promotion worth it?
It may be worthwhile if you already need a second line, have an eSIM-compatible device, and the checkout terms clearly show the expected credit. The $5 discount should be evaluated against the total cost of the added line, not treated as a standalone saving.
For a financed device, compare the full 24-month cost with buying the device outright, using a cheaper BYOD plan, or choosing a competing family plan. Consider the price after the credit ends, the remaining-balance risk if you leave Fido, and any down payment or setup charge. Fido’s phone shopping page and promotion terms should be used to confirm the device-specific details.
You can also compare plans from Koodo, Public Mobile, Freedom Mobile, Virgin Plus, and Rogers. Compare total two-line cost, data sharing, coverage, eSIM support, roaming, financing terms, activation fees, and the post-promotion price—not just the headline credit.
