Federal prosecutors charged Joanna Smith-Griffin, founder of education technology company AllHere Education and a Forbes 30 Under 30 alum, with securities fraud, wire fraud and aggravated identity theft. Prosecutors alleged she misrepresented the startup’s finances and customer base while seeking investor funding. The charges are allegations, not a conviction.
Who is Joanna Smith-Griffin?
Smith-Griffin founded AllHere Education, which developed Ed, an AI chatbot for schools. The Associated Press reported that school districts in Los Angeles, New York and Atlanta used the company’s technology. TechCrunch identified Smith-Griffin as a Forbes 30 Under 30 alum.
AllHere later collapsed and entered bankruptcy proceedings. The Associated Press reported that a trustee took over the company’s finances; TechCrunch reported that the company was in Chapter 7 bankruptcy, citing the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
What did prosecutors allege?
The indictment charged Smith-Griffin with securities fraud, wire fraud and aggravated identity theft. Prosecutors alleged that she deceived investors by misrepresenting AllHere’s finances and customer base while raising money. TechCrunch described the alleged investor fraud as involving nearly $10 million. That amount is an allegation reported by TechCrunch, not a finding by a court.

The Los Angeles Times reported that the indictment alleged Smith-Griffin represented AllHere as having about $3.7 million in revenue in 2020, while the company generated about $11,000 that year. Those figures describe the alleged discrepancy; they have not been established here as a judicial finding.
Then-U.S. Attorney Damian Williams characterized the alleged conduct as a “deliberate and calculated scheme to deceive investors in AllHere Education, Inc., inflating the company’s financials to secure millions of dollars under false pretenses.” That was the prosecutor’s description of the allegations, not a court’s conclusion.
What is known about the criminal case?
Inner City Press reported that Smith-Griffin pleaded not guilty at her arraignment on December 3, 2024. The sources cited here do not establish the case’s status or final disposition after that date, so no conclusion about the outcome should be drawn from the charges or plea alone.

The charges concern alleged representations made to investors about one company. They do not establish that Smith-Griffin is guilty, and this case alone does not show that fraud is common among Forbes 30 Under 30 honorees. A charge is an accusation; guilt must be determined through the legal process.
