What ADS included in the first-four-day figures
The 2024 Farnborough International Airshow ran from 22 to 26 July in Hampshire, England. ADS, the UK trade association for aerospace, defence, security and space, published its first-four-day figures on 25 July. It reported 260 firm commercial aircraft orders alongside the £81.5 billion in deals announced so far. ADS Group’s announcement does not provide a complete transaction ledger or valuation methodology for the headline total.
Deal value is not the same as UK value
ADS estimated the announced deals were worth at least £13 billion to the UK. That is an estimate of UK value, not another expression of the £81.5 billion total. Within the figures it reported, ADS estimated £6.4 billion of UK value from the 260 firm aircraft orders.
Aircraft and engine orders are separate counts
ADS also reported 808 firm engine orders, which it said were worth at least a further £1.2 billion to the UK at current prices. The aircraft and engine counts describe different order categories; neither count explains the entire £81.5 billion deal total. The published figures do not establish how all the components aggregate to that headline value.

How the first-four-day figure compares with the full show
After the event, Farnborough International reported that the full 22–26 July show generated $105.8 billion in commercial aircraft and engine orders. The organizer said those orders were worth £13 billion to the UK economy. Its 1 August 2024 retrospective covers the completed event, uses dollars for the order total and describes commercial aircraft and engine orders. ADS’s earlier £81.5 billion figure covers deals announced during the first four days and is stated in pounds. The totals differ in source, time coverage, currency and stated scope, so they should not be treated as a direct like-for-like comparison.

Farnborough International said the 2024 event welcomed over 100,000 visitors and 1,500 exhibitors from more than 60 countries. The show displayed 90 civil and military aircraft and hosted over 390 delegations across civil, military and space sectors. The organizer also reported more than 178,000 views of the event’s dedicated air-display livestream throughout the week; that is livestream viewership, not deal activity. These figures describe the wider exhibition, rather than the value of orders.

Separate announcement on aerospace research funding
At the show’s 22 July launch, the UK Department for Business and Trade announced just under £103 million in government-industry funding through the Aerospace Technology Institute Programme for five aerospace research and development projects. The projects, led by GKN Aerospace, Queen’s University Belfast, Rolls-Royce, Short Brothers and ZeroAvia, covered areas including hydrogen flight, sustainable propulsion, turbine technologies and lighter aerostructures. This was a separate research-funding announcement, not part of the aircraft-deal aggregate. The department’s announcement also quoted Business and Trade Secretary Jonathan Reynolds saying the UK aerospace sector “added almost £40 billion to the economy last year.” His statement was made on 22 July 2024; “last year” referred to 2023.
