FarmLead announced a partnership with Family Farms Group Canada on June 20, 2018, giving member farm operators access to FarmLead’s Grain Marketplace, GrainCents market commentary and other services in its product suite. The announcement described a grain-marketing offering; it does not establish that the partnership is still active or quantify any improvement in farm prices or profitability.

What the partnership announced

FarmLead said Family Farms Group Canada member operators would have access to its Grain Marketplace, GrainCents commentary and additional FarmLead services. The announcement framed the arrangement as a way to support members’ grain marketing. FarmLead’s announcement, republished by Farms.com on June 20, 2018, described Family Farms Group Canada as providing business, agronomic and risk-management expertise, while FarmLead supplied a marketplace and related services.

The announcement’s stated service categories included market analysis, grain testing, pricing recommendations and access to more qualified buyers. These were descriptions of the offering, not independently measured results. Successful Farming’s June 22, 2018 coverage described the goal as helping family farm operations become more profitable, but did not report a measured financial outcome.

What members were said to receive

  • Grain Marketplace: access to FarmLead’s grain-marketing marketplace.
  • GrainCents: market commentary intended to help producers interpret market movements.
  • Additional services: the announcement also cited market analysis, grain testing, pricing recommendations and access to more qualified buyers, without specifying detailed eligibility, fees or service terms.

Family Farms LLC CEO Shari Rogge-Fidler said the group sought to provide member operators with grain-marketing tools and described FarmLead as changing how grain was marketed and sold. FarmLead president and CEO Brennan Turner said producers used the company to find grain deals and understand market movements. These statements explain the parties’ rationale; they are not evidence of realized savings or higher sale prices.

How to interpret FarmLead’s growth figure

FarmLead’s June 2018 announcement claimed that marketplace volumes were growing at 700 percent year over year. That was a company-reported figure: the cited announcement supplied no measurement methodology or independent verification. It describes FarmLead’s reported marketplace growth, not the gains or results of Family Farms Group Canada members.

Is the partnership active today?

The available sources do not verify the partnership’s current operating status or terms. In January 2023, RealAgriculture reported that FarmLead had been known as Combyne since 2020 and that Bayer Crop Science acquired Combyne. It described Combyne as having shifted toward grain-marketing and inventory tools, including digitizing grain-marketing documents. That later company history does not say whether the specific Family Farms Group Canada arrangement continued. RealAgriculture’s report is useful context, not confirmation of an ongoing partnership.

What the announcement does—and does not—show

The 2018 announcement documents an intended member benefit: access to FarmLead marketplace and market-support services. The cited coverage does not provide an independent study, member pricing data or other measured evidence showing how much the partnership changed farm profitability. It also does not establish present-day access, eligibility, fees or service availability. Those details would need current confirmation from the organizations.
