F1: The Movie earned more worldwide than Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning, according to the box-office totals listed by The Numbers and Box Office Mojo when checked in 2026. The Numbers lists F1 at $634,142,436 and The Final Reckoning at $591,353,074, a gap of about $42.8 million, or roughly 7 percent more for F1. Those figures are theatrical grosses, which are the money tickets brought in at cinemas around the world. They are not the studio’s share of that money, and they do not show whether either film made a profit.

The worldwide totals, side by side

Both films were 2025 theatrical releases from Warner Bros. The table below lists each total with its source, so you can see which figure comes from which tracker and what each one covers.

Film Worldwide gross Source and access date Production budget as reported
F1: The Movie $634,142,436 The Numbers, database accessed 2026; Box Office Mojo shows the same total Not stated in the sources reviewed for this article
Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning $591,353,074 The Numbers, database accessed 2026 $400 million, per The Numbers (2026)

Two points about this comparison. First, the gap is a difference in reported grosses from two trackers at a single point in time. Box-office databases revise their totals as late reports arrive, and a figure pulled in a different month could differ slightly. Second, the gap is about worldwide tickets only. It says nothing about how each film performed in any single market, because the sources used here do not break down regional results.

Why the “$300 million misfire” label is contested

The headline’s phrase depends on a production budget, and the budget figures in circulation do not agree. The Numbers lists The Final Reckoning’s production budget at $400 million. In its May 2025 coverage from the Cannes Film Festival, The Associated Press described the production budgets for the Mission: Impossible films as close to $300 million. That AP wording refers to the films’ budgets in general, and it does not make clear whether the figure applies to The Final Reckoning alone. A reader should therefore treat “$300 million” and “$400 million” as two estimates from different sources and dates, not as one agreed number.

The label also assumes that a film’s budget tells you its cost. It does not. A production budget covers filming and post-production. A film’s total cost to the studio can also include marketing, prints and distribution expenses, and other spending that may not appear in a budget estimate. None of those amounts are established by the sources used here for either film, so no loss can be calculated from the figures above. “Misfire” is an editorial judgment rather than a reported financial result.

Why worldwide gross is not profit

A film’s gross is the money the box office collects. The studio does not keep all of it. Cinemas take a share of ticket sales, and the studio’s share, usually called theatrical rentals, is what it receives from exhibitors. Taking the rental share into account, the studio still has to cover its production budget and its marketing costs before it can count any profit.

Rank #2
F1: The Movie 2025 (Special Features) [Blu-ray] [Region Free]
  • Official Blu-ray release of F1: The Movie (2025), capturing the high-speed intensity and emotional drama of professional Formula One racing.
  • Region Free Blu-ray edition, fully compatible with Blu-ray players worldwide with no playback restrictions.
  • High-definition picture and dynamic surround sound deliver immersive race sequences and cinematic visuals.
  • Ideal for motorsport fans, collectors, and viewers who enjoy sports drama, competition, and real-world racing environments.
  • Features detailed character-driven storytelling alongside authentic racing atmosphere, offering a complete cinematic F1 experience.

This is why the same gross can mean very different outcomes depending on the budget and the marketing spend behind it. A large gross on an expensive production can still be a financial disappointment, and a smaller gross on a cheap production can be profitable. Dividing gross by budget to get a ratio is not a break-even test, because that calculation leaves out the rental share, marketing and distribution costs, and any participation payments to talent or partners.

What the sources say about F1’s opening and milestones

The film opened with $144 million worldwide over its first weekend, according to studio estimates reported by The Associated Press. Studio weekend estimates are preliminary and are usually replaced by final numbers in later reports, so this figure is best read as the opening snapshot rather than a final total.

Formula One World Championship Limited made a separate claim in its 2025 half-year review, which was published by the company and is linked below. It said that “since F1® The Movie was released globally at the end of June, box office sales have reached a total of more than $600 million.” The same review called F1 the largest-grossing sports film at that point, ahead of Cars 2’s reported $559 million. That comparison comes from Formula One’s own review and reflects the mid-2025 timing, so it does not describe the film’s final position.

On how the release was built, Jeffrey Goldstein, Warner Bros.’ distribution chief, told The Associated Press: “We came up with multiple campaigns based on where you are in the world.” He also said: “We planned for an audience-winner: screen the movie and get it out there. People talking about this movie drove this movie.” These are the studio executive’s own descriptions of strategy and do not come with spending figures.

Where to check the numbers yourself

  1. Open The Numbers page for F1: The Movie and note the worldwide total and the access date shown on the page.
  2. Open Box Office Mojo’s title page for the same film and compare its worldwide figure with The Numbers.
  3. Open The Numbers’ Mission: Impossible franchise page to find the Final Reckoning gross and the $400 million budget listing.
  4. Check the Associated Press Cannes report for the “close to $300 million” budget wording and read the sentence in context.
  5. Compare any figure against its date. Totals change as markets report late, and a number from 2025 is not the same as one from 2026.
