Expedia Group plans to cut 58 Washington-based jobs at its Seattle campus, with the changes expected to take effect from Nov. 21 through Dec. 1, 2026, according to a Sept. 22 report by GeekWire. The report says the details came from a WARN notice submitted to Washington state; the notice itself was not independently accessible for review.

How many Expedia employees are affected, and when?

GeekWire reported that the September notice covers 58 workers in Washington. The expected effective dates span Nov. 21 to Dec. 1, 2026. The report does not give a separate effective date for each affected job, so the range should not be read as a schedule for any particular employee.

The affected worksite is Expedia Group’s waterfront campus in Seattle’s Interbay neighborhood. The 58 figure is for this reported Washington notice, not a companywide layoff total.

Which Expedia jobs are included?

GeekWire said the positions span technology, product and corporate work, citing data scientists, software engineers, finance managers and senior leadership as examples. That is not a complete role list, and the full notice was not independently reviewed.

How does this compare with Expedia’s earlier 2026 cuts?

A separate January report covered 162 Washington workers, with expected effective dates from April 1 to April 19. The roles named in that report included product managers, software development engineers, UX designers, data engineers and content designers.

Reported round Washington workers Effective-date window Roles cited
January 2026 162, according to GeekWire’s January report April 1–19, 2026 Product managers, software development engineers, UX designers, data engineers and content designers
September 2026 58, according to GeekWire’s Sept. 22 report Nov. 21–Dec. 1, 2026 Examples include data scientists, software engineers, finance managers and senior leadership

These are distinct reported notices with different effective dates. The available accounts do not establish that the counts should be combined into a single final 2026 total or whether there is any overlap in scope.

Why is Expedia Group making these cuts?

GeekWire said it had asked Expedia Group for the reason for the September cuts and would update its report if the company responded. At publication, it had not provided an explanation for this specific notice.

The September report also referred to AI-related comments tied to a broader internal product and technology reorganization. That context does not establish AI as the cause of these 58 job cuts. Expedia’s January statement about simplifying its structure, reducing organizational layers and eliminating some roles while opening others concerned the earlier round, not the September notice.

What a Washington WARN notice tells workers

Washington’s Employment Security Department (ESD) says its public WARN database includes an employer, location, affected-worker count, effective date, type of action and a downloadable notice. The database is the primary state source for checking a filing; ESD explains its data and notice requirements at its WARN notices page. The database is available at ESD’s WARN notices database.

ESD describes 60-day notice requirements for covered situations and notes that not every layoff meets the criteria. A notice is not, by itself, proof that an employer violated the law. GeekWire reported that its details came from a WARN letter submitted to ESD, but the state database and notice were not accessible for direct review when the report was prepared. As a result, the underlying filing’s complete role list, individual effective dates and other notice details are not established here.

Resources for Washington workers affected by layoffs

ESD directs workers affected by layoffs to WorkSource and describes rapid-response reemployment services. Workers seeking practical next steps can consult the state’s WARN notices and layoff assistance information for current resources.
