In May 2021, Expedia Group named Jon Gieselman, then a marketing leader at Apple Services, President of Expedia Brands, and Rathi Murthy, from Verizon Media, Chief Technology Officer and President of Expedia Services. The appointments were part of a four-pillar structure announced by then-CEO Peter Kern. That structure is historical: Expedia’s leadership and organization have since changed.
Who Expedia Group hired in May 2021
Expedia Group announced both appointments on May 24, 2021, alongside a reorganization that divided its operations into four areas. The company said Gieselman had led marketing for Apple Services and would oversee Expedia Brands. Murthy joined from Verizon Media as CTO and President of Expedia Services. Expedia Group’s announcement is the primary source for the appointments and the roles as described at the time.
How the announced four-pillar structure worked
The 2021 plan assigned different parts of Expedia Group’s business to four divisions. These are the leaders and remits the company announced then—not a current organizational chart.

Why Expedia said it was reorganizing
Peter Kern, then Expedia Group’s vice chairman and CEO, described the aim as to “simplify our organization for clarity and speed,” according to contemporaneous GeekWire coverage. That was management’s stated rationale, not evidence that the reorganization achieved those results.
GeekWire also reported that Expedia planned the departures of Travel Partners Group President Cyril Ranque, President and Marketing co-lead Adam Jay, and Retail Product and Technology President Tucker Moodey over the months following the announcement. Those were reported plans in 2021 and do not establish anyone’s present employment status.

What changed after the 2021 announcement
Expedia announced on February 8, 2024, that Ariane Gorin would succeed Peter Kern as CEO effective May 13, 2024. Its CEO transition announcement also reported that B2B revenue grew 33% in 2023 compared with 2022; that figure describes those specific periods, not current growth.
Expedia’s current leadership page lists Gorin as CEO. In a May 11, 2026 announcement, the company said Alfonso Paredes would lead a unified B2B and Supply organization as President, B2B & Chief Commercial Officer. That later change is described in Expedia’s 2026 leadership announcement. These updates make clear why the four-pillar plan should be read as a 2021 reorganization rather than a description of Expedia’s present structure.

What the financial figures from the period do—and do not—show
GeekWire reported that Expedia Group recorded $1.24 billion in revenue in the first quarter of 2021, down 44% year over year. That is a dated snapshot of a period during the pandemic, not a measure of current revenue or proof that the executive changes caused any later financial result. The company’s reported 33% B2B revenue growth, by contrast, was for 2023 versus 2022 and appeared in its 2024 CEO transition announcement.
