SalarySport’s 2026/27 wage table lists Carlos Mendes Gomes at the top, with an estimated £7,400 a week. But Exeter City says Mendes Gomes returned to his parent club after his loan, so the table cannot be treated as a verified ranking of the club’s current players. The amounts are third-party estimates, not official salary disclosures.
SalarySport’s listed top 10 for 2026/27
The figures below are the first 10 entries in SalarySport’s weekly-wage-sorted Exeter City table, checked on 8 October 2026. They are estimates published by SalarySport, not wages confirmed by Exeter City. The table’s season label is 2026/27, but the available evidence does not establish that every listed player is currently in the club’s squad.

The three players shown at £3,100 are tied on SalarySport’s estimate; the figures do not establish a unique order among them. SalarySport does not establish here how it calculates each individual estimate, so these amounts should not be read as exact contract terms or take-home pay.
Why the top-name claim conflicts with Exeter’s squad information
Exeter City’s retained-and-released announcement after the 2025/26 League One season says six loan players returned to their parent clubs, including Mendes Gomes. The club listed 13 professionals under contract for 2026/27, and Mendes Gomes was not among them. That roster statement conflicts with SalarySport’s listing of him as the highest earner for 2026/27.

The club’s announcement establishes what Exeter said about player status at that time; it does not disclose salaries. Technical Director Marcus Flitcroft thanked departing players and those returning to parent clubs for their “commitment and contribution” during their time at Exeter, but the statement says nothing about compensation.
What SalarySport’s wage-bill figure does—and does not—show
SalarySport also displays an estimated squad wage bill of £2,790,840 a year, or £53,670 a week, across 42 players for 2026/27. Those are figures from the same third-party page, not official club totals. The listed headcount and aggregate should not be treated as independently verified, and they do not validate any named player’s pay.

Club accounts answer a different question. Companies House records that Exeter City A.F.C. Limited filed group accounts for the period ending 30 June 2025 on 27 March 2026. The filing-history page is an index of filings, not a named player salary list. Aggregate personnel costs cannot, on their own, substantiate an individual wage or a top-ten ranking. Capology likewise warns that its salary figures are estimates rather than official figures, and that coverage can be limited or incomplete.

How to interpret the figures
- They are reported estimates: SalarySport’s table is the source for every weekly amount above; Exeter City has not been identified as publishing those individual figures.
- Player status matters: Mendes Gomes’s listing conflicts with Exeter’s retained-list announcement, so the table is not reliable evidence of a current-player ranking.
- They are not confirmed contract details: The available information does not establish SalarySport’s individual estimation method or whether bonuses, loan-pay arrangements, or other contract terms are reflected.
- Accounts are not a substitute: A club-level filing or personnel-cost total does not reveal a named player’s salary.
