Costco’s TV return policy in plain English
Televisions are among the electronics subject to Costco’s 90-day return period. The period generally runs from the date you receive the TV, rather than allowing unlimited returns under Costco’s broader satisfaction guarantee. See Costco’s current return policy for the applicable exceptions and details.
Test the television promptly. Keep the receipt or order confirmation, remote, stand hardware, accessories, and packaging while you decide whether to keep it. For online orders, follow Costco’s online return or replacement process and confirm how pickup or shipping works for a large television. A warehouse return may be convenient, but transporting a fragile 75- or 85-inch TV can create its own risk.

What Costco’s TV warranty covers
Costco says it extends a qualifying television’s manufacturer warranty for up to two years from the warehouse purchase date or online delivery date. Costco Technical and Warranty Services may provide repair, replacement, or a refund up to the purchase price, subject to the manufacturer’s terms and exclusions. Start with Costco Technical and Warranty Services or Costco product support when a covered problem occurs.
This coverage is not the same as insurance against every problem. Accidental, liquid, physical, cosmetic, or misuse-related damage, unauthorized repairs, software problems, and failures caused by external equipment may be excluded. Check the specific manufacturer warranty and Costco’s warranty explanation.
Allstate protection plans
Some Costco listings include or offer an Allstate Protection Plan. Costco describes up to five total years of coverage when its two-year coverage is combined with a qualifying three-year Allstate plan. That does not mean every Costco television automatically has five years of identical warranty coverage.
Before paying for a plan, check whether it covers:
- OLED burn-in or image retention;
- accidental and liquid damage;
- dead pixels and the required pixel-failure threshold;
- labor, shipping, and in-home service;
- repair, replacement, reimbursement, or store credit;
- claim limits and transferability.
For example, a Costco listing for the Samsung S85F OLED has identified an included three-year Allstate plan, but the bundle and terms are model-specific. Do not assume another TV has the same benefit.
Choose the right display technology
Standard LED/LCD
LED televisions use an LCD panel illuminated by LEDs. They offer the broadest price range and can be a sensible choice for bright rooms, general streaming, cable, and households concerned about OLED burn-in. Their weaknesses can include gray-looking blacks, backlight bleed, blooming, and limited viewing angles, depending on the panel and backlight design.

QLED
QLED generally means an LED/LCD television with a quantum-dot layer. It can provide strong brightness and color volume, but the label does not guarantee premium contrast. Black levels depend on the panel, backlight, local-dimming system, and image processing. Costco’s television support guide explains the basic OLED and QLED distinction.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Mini-LED
Mini-LED is still LCD technology, but it uses smaller backlight LEDs and many local-dimming zones. It can deliver high brightness and better contrast than ordinary edge-lit LCD televisions, making it attractive for sports, HDR, gaming, and bright rooms. It does not eliminate blooming: bright objects can still produce halos against dark backgrounds, and performance varies by model.
Costco listings have included Samsung M70H, QN70F, and QN80F Mini-LED families. Compare the exact size and model rather than assuming every Mini-LED set performs alike.
OLED
OLED pixels emit their own light and can switch off individually. That produces excellent black levels, contrast, viewing angles, and response times, which makes OLED especially appealing for movies and dark rooms.
The trade-offs are price, model-dependent brightness, reflections, and the possibility of temporary image retention or permanent burn-in. Repeated static news tickers, logos, game HUDs, or computer interfaces create more risk than varied viewing. No display technology is risk-free, and no protection plan should be assumed to cover burn-in without explicit confirmation.

Specifications that actually matter
Resolution
For a new mainstream television, 4K Ultra HD—3,840 × 2,160 pixels—is the normal target. Resolution is only one part of picture quality. Contrast, brightness, local dimming, color, processing, source quality, and viewing distance may matter more than moving to 8K, for which native content remains limited.
Native refresh rate
A 60Hz native panel is adequate for most television, movies, and casual viewing. A 120Hz native panel is preferable for sports, smoother motion, and modern console or PC gaming.
Do not confuse native refresh rate with labels such as “Motion Rate,” “Motion Xcelerator,” “Clear Motion,” or “effective refresh rate.” Check whether the exact model supports 4K at 120Hz, which HDMI ports support it, and whether VRR works at the resolution and frame rate you need.
Recommended Free Tools
For example, Costco listings have described Samsung QN70F and QN80F models with native 120Hz specifications, while the M70H listing describes a 60Hz mode with DLG 120Hz gaming capability. Those specifications should not be treated as equivalent.
HDMI ports
Count your devices before buying: cable box, consoles, streaming device, Blu-ray player, PC, soundbar, AV receiver, and any switcher. Important features include HDMI 2.1 bandwidth, 4K/120Hz, variable refresh rate (VRR), auto low-latency mode (ALLM), eARC, HDCP, and HDMI-CEC.
Four HDMI ports do not necessarily mean four HDMI 2.1 ports. A TV may provide 4K/120Hz or VRR only on selected inputs, and eARC may use a port needed by another device. Inspect the input table in the exact Costco listing or manual.

HDR
Look for the formats relevant to your content: HDR10, HDR10+, Dolby Vision, and HLG. No format wins in every situation. Ask whether your streaming services and devices use the format, whether the panel is bright enough for effective HDR, and how well the TV tone-maps it.
Sound and eARC
Built-in speakers can handle casual viewing but rarely replace a soundbar or receiver. If you plan to use one, verify eARC, Dolby Atmos passthrough, DTS support if relevant to your discs or media library, and whether the stand leaves room for the speaker. A soundbar can block the bottom of the image if the TV sits too low.
Smart-TV software
Compare app availability, speed, updates, advertising, voice assistants, casting, user profiles, privacy controls, and remote design. An external streamer can solve an awkward interface, but it adds another device and may require one more HDMI input.
Choose by how you watch
| Use case | Priorities |
|---|---|
| Bright living room | Brightness, reflection handling, local dimming, and viewing angles. Mini-LED or a bright-room OLED may fit. |
| Dark movie room | Black levels, contrast, accurate picture modes, viewing angles, and low blooming. OLED is compelling; premium Mini-LED can be brighter. |
| Sports | Native 120Hz, motion processing, brightness, reflection handling, and wide viewing angles. |
| Gaming | 4K/120Hz, HDMI 2.1, VRR, ALLM, low input lag, and enough compatible ports. |
| News, cable, or static logos | LCD or Mini-LED may reduce concern about permanent image retention. OLED requires more careful usage. |
| Bedroom | Appropriate size, viewing angle, low-volume dialogue clarity, smart-TV usability, and stand dimensions. |
| Outdoor space | An outdoor-rated television, not a standard indoor set. |
Compare Costco TVs by exact model number
Brand and marketing family are not enough. Record the full model number, size, model year, panel type, native refresh rate, HDMI port capabilities, HDR formats, included accessories, protection plan, dimensions, weight, VESA pattern, and included remote.
Costco-specific or retailer-exclusive suffixes can change specifications, software, stand design, accessories, or bundled coverage. A similarly named television sold elsewhere may not be the same product. Costco’s TV buying guides can help with broad comparisons, but the individual product page and manual matter more.

Costco.com generally offers broader selection, home delivery, and more detailed product information. Delivery damage, delays, replacement logistics, and differences between online and warehouse pricing remain possible. Availability and promotions can change before checkout.
Before opening a delivered TV, photograph dents, punctures, tears, and crushed corners. If the television is visibly damaged, do not power it on or attempt to mount it; document the condition and contact Costco promptly.
Measure the room and installation route
Measure the wall, furniture width, stand separation, viewing height, soundbar clearance, doorways, hallways, stairs, elevators, and vehicle cargo space. A TV’s diagonal size does not tell you its exact cabinet width or stand footprint.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFor wall mounting, verify the exact TV’s VESA pattern, weight without the stand, mount rating, wall type, stud spacing, cable route, outlet position, and whether tilt or swivel is needed. Never select a mount solely by advertised screen size.
Delivery, basic setup, stand assembly, wall mounting, cable concealment, soundbar installation, and old-TV removal may be separate services. A Costco comparison listing, for example, has shown basic setup pricing that excludes wall mounting. Confirm the service scope before paying.
What to do when the TV arrives
- Inspect and photograph the carton before opening.
- Open the box with two people and retain all packaging.
- Check the panel for cracks, pressure marks, and visible damage.
- Confirm the remote, stand, screws, power cable, and manuals are included.
- Record the model and serial number.
- Update firmware and connect Wi-Fi or Ethernet.
- Test every HDMI input, eARC, Wi-Fi, and the connected devices.
- Check for dead or stuck pixels, severe blooming, banding, tinting, flicker, and uneven gray screens.
- Test daylight, nighttime, sports, dark movies, HDR, subtitles, ordinary cable or broadcast content, and gaming.
- Start a return or replacement promptly if the TV fails your requirements; do not wait until the 90-day deadline.
Warehouse displays are not definitive. Retail lighting, demo content, splitters, picture modes, viewing angles, and firmware can make a TV look different from the same model at home.
Basic setup checklist
- Select an accurate Cinema, Filmmaker, or similar picture mode where available.
- Adjust brightness and energy-saving settings for the room.
- Enable the TV’s enhanced HDMI mode if required for 4K HDR or high refresh rates.
- Enable Game Mode, VRR, and ALLM when compatible.
- Configure eARC and audio passthrough for a soundbar or receiver.
- Disable excessive motion smoothing if you dislike the soap-opera effect.
- Enable HDMI-CEC only if you want connected-device control.
- Review privacy, voice-assistant, advertising, and data-collection settings.
- Use strong, unique passwords and two-factor authentication for associated accounts.
When Costco is not the best place to buy
Another retailer may be preferable if Costco lacks the exact model, another seller offers a materially lower total price, you do not want a membership, or the competing retailer provides better pickup, return transport, installation, or calibration.
Costco may also be a poor fit for a specialized buyer seeking a particular flagship, professional-calibration service, unusual size, or a TV with more HDMI 2.1 ports than the Costco variant provides. Compare total cost and actual features—not just the warehouse price or a temporary savings label. Historical Costco prices observed in July 2026 should not be presented as current September prices without checking live checkout.
Final Costco TV buying checklist
- Have I measured the wall, furniture, delivery route, and soundbar space?
- Does the panel type suit the room’s brightness and my viewing habits?
- Is the native refresh rate—not just a marketing motion number—right for me?
- Are there enough HDMI ports, including the required HDMI 2.1 inputs?
- Do 4K/120Hz, VRR, ALLM, eARC, and HDR work on the ports I will use?
- Is the smart platform acceptable, or do I need an external streamer?
- What is included in the price, and what costs extra?
- What are the exact return deadline, warranty terms, and protection-plan exclusions?
- Can I safely inspect, keep, and if necessary return this large TV?
- Have I compared the exact model number and total cost with other retailers?
For a buyer who values support and flexibility, Costco’s 90-day electronics return period and up-to-two-year TV warranty extension can be meaningful financial protection. The best purchase, however, is the exact television that fits the room, devices, content, installation plan, and budget—not simply the largest discounted screen on the Costco floor.
