Wayfair’s first large-format store is at Edens Plaza, 3232 Lake Avenue, Wilmette, Illinois 60091. It opened on May 23, 2024, with two floors, 150,000 square feet and 19 home departments. Unlike browsing online, visitors can see and handle selected products, explore display kitchens and design areas, and ask for in-person design or home-improvement advice. The store also has an onsite café, The Porch.
What “Wayfair’s first store” means
Wayfair describes the Wilmette location as its first large-format store. That wording matters: in 2019, the company announced plans for a first full-service physical store in Natick, Massachusetts. The announcement establishes that a store was planned, not that it ultimately opened. The Wilmette store is therefore best understood as Wayfair’s first large-format location, rather than confidently labeled its first-ever physical retail store. Wayfair’s 2019 announcement

What you can find inside
Wayfair announced 19 departments across two stories and 150,000 square feet. Its listed merchandise spans furniture, home décor, housewares, appliances and home improvement. The idea is to bring multiple home categories together in one place, rather than make the store a showroom for a single product type. Wayfair’s announcement

How the store differs from shopping online
The practical difference is the opportunity to inspect products and get help in person. Wayfair said visitors could seek free, one-to-one design and home-improvement advice, either by appointment or as walk-ins. These are services Wayfair announced for the opening; confirm availability with the store before planning around a consultation. Wayfair’s opening announcement
Wayfair also said selected items could be taken home the same day, while most products would be eligible for free delivery within a day or two. Those are opening-era service descriptions, not a guarantee of current stock, delivery timing or eligibility. Check the item and delivery terms directly before relying on them.

As with online shopping, the store is part of a multichannel experience: visitors can browse in person, but the store’s presence does not establish that every item in Wayfair’s online catalog is on the floor. No independent head-to-head data establishes that shopping there is cheaper or more convenient than ordering online or visiting another retailer.

The onsite café is called The Porch. Wayfair’s opening announcement described small bites, salads, soups and handheld items, and Gensler describes the café as a gathering space. A current menu and service details have not been established here, so check with the location if dining is part of your visit plan. Gensler’s project description
