European Foods announced in February 2022 that it expected to open a second Marketplace store at 344 South Street, O’Connor, on 21 February. The planned store was to serve Perth’s southern suburbs with specialty food, including an expanded cheese department. The announcement did not confirm that it opened on that date, and current operating details are not established by the report.
What European Foods announced
In a report published on 10 February 2022, PerthNow said European Foods expected its second Marketplace store to open at 344 South Street, O’Connor, on 21 February 2022. That was a planned opening date, not confirmation that the store opened then.
The earlier Marketplace location in Osborne Park was reported to have opened in 2019. O’Connor was presented as the next step in bringing the company’s specialty-food offering to Perth’s southern suburbs.
What the planned store was to offer
Cheese and specialty foods
PerthNow described a planned 40sqm cheese department with more than 350 varieties. The report also mentioned small goods and antipasti staples, and said Fremantle Coffee Roasters would be based at the store. These were announcement-era details, not a verified account of what is available now.

Local producers
European Foods said it wanted to increase the amount of local gourmet produce at O’Connor and source nearby producers that might not normally have access to larger distributors. Chief executive Miguel Buccellato told PerthNow: “We are currently sourcing local producers from the area who normally can’t access larger distributors to delivery directly into O’Connor,” he said.

These are terms reported in 2022; the article does not establish current delivery coverage, discounts, or ordering conditions. Buccellato said the locally based operation could help customers manage stock levels, order frequency, and budgets more closely.
Why the announcement mattered to the local business community
The planned store combined a specialty-food retailer’s consumer-facing Marketplace format with wholesale distribution and an effort to bring more local producers into its supply network. Danicia Quinlan, then chief executive of the Fremantle Chamber of Commerce, said O’Connor was important to the regional business community and that the chamber would work to support its members there.
