Etihad Airways flight EY67, bound for London Heathrow, was reported as the first flight to leave the UAE after airspace closures, departing Abu Dhabi on March 2, 2026. Euronews reported a 14:39 UAE-time departure. The flight was an exceptional operation—not evidence that Etihad’s normal schedule had reopened.
What happened on March 2, 2026?
Regional airspace closures disrupted flights to and from Abu Dhabi. Etihad announced that all flights to and from the city were suspended until 14:00 UAE time on March 3, while saying any return to service would depend on safety criteria. Aletihad News Center reported the suspension notice on March 2.
That same day, the UAE General Civil Aviation Authority announced exceptional flight operations. Euronews reported that EY67 departed Zayed International Airport at 14:39 UAE time (11:39 CET) and landed at London Heathrow at 19:16 GMT (20:16 CET). Euronews characterized it as the first flight to depart the UAE after the closure; the departure time and “first” description are attributed to that report, rather than presented here as an independently verified flight record. Why did EY67 depart during a stated suspension?
The suspension notice described the broad disruption and planned pause in scheduled service. The exceptional-flight operation was a limited arrangement coordinated with authorities, not a general reopening. Etihad said services would operate only when safety criteria were met: “Safety remains our absolute priority, and services will operate only once all safety criteria are met.” The statement was issued by Etihad Airways, with no individual speaker named in the report.

A flight departing under exceptional arrangements does not establish that other flights were operating, that passengers could use the usual schedule, or that the suspension notice had been withdrawn. The distinction matters for anyone interpreting a single departure as a sign that normal travel had resumed.
Was this the A380’s first London flight?
No. The A380 connection to London predates the March 2026 disruption. Etihad marked the aircraft’s return to commercial service on its Abu Dhabi–London Heathrow route on July 25, 2023. That inaugural return flight left Abu Dhabi at 02:05 and arrived at Heathrow at 06:45 local time. The 2023 event was the A380’s return to the route; it was not the March 2026 exceptional departure. How did flights resume after the disruption?
March 2: exceptional operations
EY67’s reported departure was part of the exceptional flight operations announced by UAE authorities. It should not be read as confirmation that ordinary commercial flights had resumed.
March 5: limited airport operations
Abu Dhabi Airports said limited flight operations had resumed at Zayed International Airport. It advised people with confirmed tickets to contact their airline and wait for specific instructions before travelling to the airport. Read the Abu Dhabi Airports update.

March 6: limited Etihad schedule
Etihad announced a limited commercial flight schedule from March 6, with London Heathrow among the listed destinations. Its notice told passengers to check their flight status and travel to the airport only with a confirmed booking.
