No: Ethena’s latest dated allocation figures do not show more than half of USDe backing allocated to lending. At September 30, 2026, DeFi lending represented 44% of Ethena’s liquid cash, and liquid cash was 74% of total backing. Multiplying those rounded shares implies about 32.6% of total backing in DeFi lending. Even including the separately reported institutional-lending category, the implied share is about 38.5%.
Why the 44% figure does not mean 44% of all backing
The key distinction is the denominator. Ethena’s September 30 governance update reported $4.95 billion in total backing, of which $3.7 billion—74%—was categorized as liquid cash. That category includes stablecoins, DeFi lending positions and institutional lending. The update said stablecoins on loan in DeFi markets made up 44% of liquid cash at quarter end, not 44% of total USDe backing.

Using the reported rounded percentages, the calculation is 44% × 74% = approximately 32.6% of total backing in DeFi lending. Institutional lending was listed separately at 8% of liquid cash. Combining those two lending categories gives 52% of liquid cash; 52% × 74% = approximately 38.5% of total backing. These are estimates derived from rounded shares, not percentages Ethena directly published for total backing.

What else was in the September 30 backing mix?
The update reported $0.84 billion, or 17% of backing, in hedged BTC and ETH positions, and $0.28 billion, or 6%, in real-world-asset positions identified as JAAA and STAC. Together with liquid cash, these listed categories account for 97% of the reported total when using the rounded percentages; the published categories and values are rounded, so the remaining difference should not be treated as a precise additional allocation.
Within liquid cash, the DeFi lending share declined from 52% at the start of July to 44% at quarter end. Institutional lending was tracked separately from mid-July and stood at 8% of liquid cash on September 30. Ethena stables were 3% of liquid cash, while blue-chip stables were 36%. Those stablecoin categories are components of liquid cash, not additions to the total-backing denominator.

Do not confuse backing allocated to lending with USDe deposited in lending markets
The same governance update separately tracked USDe-related deposits across Aave, Morpho, Jupiter Lend and Kamino. Their combined reported TVL rose from $2.76 billion on July 1 to $2.98 billion on September 30. Within that total, USDe deposits rose from $1.89 billion to $2.40 billion, while sUSDe deposits fell from $0.86 billion to $0.57 billion.
Those are deposits of Ethena assets in external lending markets. They measure lending-market activity involving USDe and sUSDe; they are not a measure of how much of Ethena’s own backing was deployed in lending. A large market-deposit total therefore cannot establish that the same amount—or more than half of backing—is allocated by Ethena to lending.

Across those four venues, Aave remained the largest by reported USDe-related deposit TVL, declining from $1.95 billion to $1.67 billion between July 1 and September 30. Morpho increased from $0.29 billion to $0.87 billion. Jupiter Lend was reported in a range of $0.20–0.26 billion and Kamino in a range of $0.24–0.27 billion. These venue figures describe the reported DeFi footprint, not backing composition.
What the later October 12 figures do—and do not—show
Ethena’s update also provided a newer solvency snapshot dated October 12, 2026: $4.83 billion in backing assets including the Reserve Fund against $4.76 billion of USDe supply, for a reported backing ratio of 101.43%. It listed the Reserve Fund at $62.57 million, compared with a recommended size of $45.7 million.

That October 12 snapshot is newer than the September 30 allocation data, but it does not state an updated lending-allocation percentage. It would be inaccurate to combine the October solvency figures with the September allocation percentages as if they were one contemporaneous snapshot.

How to check Ethena’s backing disclosures
-
Open the July–September 2026 governance update and identify the date attached to the figure you are using. The allocation snapshot is September 30; the solvency snapshot is October 12.
-
Check the denominator before interpreting a percentage. The 44% DeFi lending and 8% institutional lending figures are shares of liquid cash. Liquid cash itself is reported as 74% of total backing.
-
Keep backing allocation separate from lending-market TVL. The $2.98 billion across Aave, Morpho, Jupiter Lend and Kamino is USDe-related deposits, not Ethena’s backing allocation.

For dashboard and custody-address context, consult Ethena’s real-time dashboard documentation. It says Copper and Ceffu use omnibus custody arrangements, so the displayed deposit addresses represent initial direct-mint deposits rather than current protocol holdings; Ethena says this does not compromise its ownership or claim on backing held in those solutions.
On-chain address balances alone may therefore not show the current value of assets held through those custodians. Read address data alongside the dashboard documentation and the dated allocation disclosures rather than treating an initial deposit address as a live holdings statement.
