The reports describe an alleged workplace-retaliation episode—not a proven legal finding—and do not establish that the alleged defect caused a fatal crash.
Who is Hazar Denli, and which jobs were involved?
Road & Track reports that Denli joined a VinFast development project in September 2022 as a chassis design specialist at Tata Technologies, where he led front suspension development work. Tata Technologies was the engineering group through which he worked on the Vietnamese automaker’s vehicle program. Road & Track’s December 2024 account attributes key details to BBC reporting.
The reported sequence involved two distinct work relationships. Denli says he resigned from the VinFast project in May 2023 after a request to be reassigned was denied. He later worked as a consulting engineer through an agency contracted by Jaguar Land Rover (JLR), a Tata Group company. Reporting says he was dismissed from that later role after his Reddit posts about the VinFast project drew attention. The accounts do not establish that Tata Technologies itself employed him in that later consulting position.
What safety concern did Denli say he reported?
Denli said testing revealed loosening at the front strut-to-knuckle connection—a joint between suspension components. He warned that continued loosening could become dangerous enough for a wheel to separate. As quoted by Road & Track from a BBC interview, Denli said: “We saw, for example, the front strut-to-knuckle connection was loosening, which could be extremely dangerous.”
#1 Best Overall
- Shock Absorption & Cushioning: Shock absorber bushings effectively fill and cushion the gap and impacts between the shock absorber and the tower top. When the vehicle traverses bumpy roads, they absorb and disperse vibrations originating from the suspension system
- Precise Dimensions: Suspension bushings measure 3.08 × 3.08 × 0.33 inches. The center bore is designed to fit common shock absorber piston rod diameters of approximately 1.53 inches. Please verify dimensions before ordering to keep compatibility
- Noise Reduction: Shock absorber bushings serve as a cushioning layer at the top of the shock absorber, isolating direct contact and friction between metal components. This significantly reduces abnormal noises such as "rattling" produced when the vehicle traverses bumps or turns
- Durable: Automotive shock bushings are manufactured from PU. This material offers tear resistance, aging resistance, and adapts to extreme temperatures ranging from freezing cold to scorching heat, assuring long-term use without deformation in the harsh environment near the engine compartment
- Installation Instructions: Use a wrench to unscrew the large retaining nut at the top of the shock absorber. Take off the nut and retaining washer. Align the suspension bushing with the shock absorber rod and slide it into place. Reinstall the retaining washer and securely tighten the nut
Road & Track says the engineering team recorded six critical suspension failures during testing and reports that Denli escalated his concerns to senior managers at Tata and VinFast. It also says the project proceeded toward production. Those are accounts of Denli’s statements and the team’s reported work; the underlying test records and an independent technical review are not established by the reporting cited here.
In a Reddit post reproduced by Road & Track, Denli compared development timelines at JLR and Mercedes with VinFast’s process and alleged that VinFast skipped later development steps. That comparison is his claim, not an independently verified account of either company’s engineering process.

- Enhance Load Capacity: This front coil spring spacer is specifically designed to restore spring tension, providing support for sagging springs and raising the vehicle body. It maintains the suspension system's proper operating condition, delivering long-lasting reliability and a comfortable driving experience
- Shock Absorption: This front coil spring spacer supports sagging springs and reduces vehicle body vibration. It effectively absorbs impact forces and vibrations during driving, minimizes friction noise between the springs and suspension components, and lowers in-vehicle noise levels
- Excellent Quality: Made of premium rubber, this coil spring spacer boasts excellent wear and pressure resistance. It resists deformation and cracking even with long-term use. Its great flexibility prevents scratches or damage to the spring, thereby extending the spring's service time
- Easy Installation: This spring spacer is easy to install—simply insert it into the vehicle's front coil spring. Note: Depending on the vehicle model, a spring compressor tool is required to create sufficient space between the spring coils, allowing for easier insertion of the lift block
- Wide Application: This front coil spring booster measures 1.85 × 1.55 × 1.25 inches. We offer two lift specifications of 1 inch (25mm) and 1.5 inches (38mm) to meet diverse usage needs. It is compatible with most vehicle models on the market, including sedans, trucks, and SUVs
Why does the story say he was fired?
According to Carscoops’ December 2024 report and Road & Track, Denli was dismissed from his later JLR-linked consulting role after he publicly described his experience on Reddit. The reports connect the posts with the dismissal, but that sequence alone does not establish the employer’s motive or prove unlawful retaliation.
Carscoops reported that Denli intended to pursue an employment tribunal. The cited accounts do not provide a final tribunal or court finding, or establish the outcome of any later proceeding. JLR said it does not comment on ongoing litigation, according to Road & Track’s account of the companies’ responses.

- Shock Absorption: These rubber coil spring spacers absorb and isolate impact forces from the road surface when traversing rough terrain. This prevents direct contact between metal body components, reduces rattling noises and body vibrations during operation, and enhances ride comfort and handling stability
- Durable Material: These front and rear coil spring spacers are crafted from premium rubber material. This composition provides exceptional durability, resisting cracking or deformation during use. Additionally, they are waterproof and heat-resistant, enabling stable operation across diverse environments
- Robust Support: These spacers enhance spring stiffness and tension by filling gaps in coil springs, reducing sag in overloaded suspensions. This enables vehicles to suppress excessive body roll during cornering or sudden lane changes, maintain tire contact patch, and preserve chassis stability
- How to Use: First, jack up the vehicle and remove the tire. Next, clean the spring and lubricate both the spring and the shim. Then insert the shim from the bottom, rolling it upward along the spring coils until fully seated. Finally, you can drive slowly over speed bumps to check for unusual noises
- Widely Used: This spring shim has an outer diameter of 4.48", an inner diameter of 6.29", and a height of 2.36". Its ideal dimensions make it suitable for most vehicles weighing between 2000 and 2500 pounds, such as cars, trucks, and SUVs. It is an essential component in a vehicle's suspension system
How does the Pleasanton crash fit in?
Carscoops reports that Denli’s public account referred to the deaths of a family of four in a VinFast VF8 crash in California in April 2024. Road & Track identifies it as a single-vehicle crash in Pleasanton and says it prompted an investigation by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
The available reporting does not establish that the alleged suspension issue caused the crash. An investigation prompted by a crash is not itself a finding that a particular component failed or caused it; no official, attributable causal finding is established in these reports.

What did the companies say, and what is separately known about recalls?
Road & Track reports that Tata Group declined to comment when approached by the BBC. JLR said it does not comment on ongoing litigation. VinFast said it had no control over Tata Group’s human-resources processes. These responses do not resolve the technical allegations or establish the reason for Denli’s dismissal.
Separately, Carscoops reported that VinFast recalled 2,800 vehicles in early 2023 over a bolt connecting the brake caliper to the knuckle. That was a brake-component recall, not proof of Denli’s reported concern about a loosening front strut-to-knuckle suspension connection. The reports do not establish that the two issues were related.
