The latest order is for the 777-9, with options to convert aircraft to other variants; it does not mean Emirates has placed a separate firm order for the 777-8 or 777-10.
How many Boeing 777X aircraft has Emirates ordered?
Emirates’ order book includes 270 Boeing 777X aircraft. The airline reported that total as of 31 March 2026 in its 2025–26 annual report, and Boeing independently confirmed the cumulative figure after the latest order announcement. The total covers the 777X family, not 270 aircraft all specified as the same variant.
The newest addition was announced on 17 November 2025: 65 more Boeing 777-9s. Emirates described the order as worth US$38 billion at list prices; that is not evidence of the negotiated price or the amount the airline will pay. Emirates’ order announcement and Boeing’s confirmation report the deal and cumulative total.
The annual report also says the Emirates Group’s total order book—367 aircraft across its orders—is scheduled through 2038. That group-wide figure is not a 777X-only delivery schedule.

How did the order change from 2023 to 2025?

The delivery outlook therefore moved from a 2025 expectation in Emirates’ 2023 announcement to an expectation of deliveries from Q2 2027 in 2025. The earlier forecast was superseded; this change does not establish when any individual aircraft will arrive. Emirates repeated the Q2 2027 expectation in its 2025–26 annual report, while Boeing’s Q4 2025 results said the first 777X delivery remained anticipated in 2027.
Is Emirates’ order for the 777-8 or the 777-9?
The 65 aircraft announced in 2025 are 777-9s. Emirates said the order includes options to convert aircraft into the 777-8 or the proposed 777-10. Those options are not the same as a separate firm order for either variant, and the announcement does not specify how many aircraft, if any, Emirates will convert.

Emirates has not established a final cabin seating or layout for its aircraft in the cited announcements.
When will Emirates receive its first 777X?
Emirates’ stated expectation is to begin receiving its first 777-9s from Q2 2027. The airline’s November 2025 announcement quotes Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman and Chief Executive of Emirates Airline and Group, saying: “We look forward to continue working closely with Boeing to receive delivery of our first 777-9s from Q2 of 2027”.

Boeing’s separate manufacturer-side outlook in its Q4 2025 results also anticipated a first 777X delivery in 2027. Neither statement guarantees that a delivery will occur on a particular date. The cited announcements do not provide a per-aircraft delivery schedule or establish whether later certification developments will change the outlook.

Emirates frames the purchases as part of long-term fleet expansion and renewal, aligned with Dubai’s growth plans. Sheikh Ahmed said, “Each of our aircraft on order has been carefully factored into Emirates’ expansion plan, which is aligned to Dubai’s growth plans.” Boeing describes the 777X as intended for high-capacity, long-range routes.
