Embraer CEO Francisco Gomes Neto said the company had cancelled its proposed next-generation turboprop, rather than merely putting it on hold. He made the statement during the Q3 2025 earnings-call Q&A; it appears in a published call transcript, not an official written cancellation announcement. The decision concerns the turboprop proposal—not Embraer’s separate E175-E2 jet program.
What Embraer said about the turboprop
Asked about the development status of the new turboprop, Gomes Neto answered: “The turboprop project or initiative has been canceled by us.” He added that Embraer had no project or initiative in that direction at the time, while leaving open the possibility that circumstances could change in the future. Read the published Q3 2025 earnings-call transcript.
This is a spoken statement by Embraer’s president and CEO, preserved in a third-party transcript. It supports describing the initiative as cancelled, but not claiming Embraer issued a written press release announcing the cancellation.
What the proposed aircraft would have been
The concept discussed in reporting involved 70- and 90-seat turboprop variants with engines mounted at the rear and facing forward. Those figures and the layout describe an early proposal, not a finalized aircraft specification. The reviewed sources do not establish a model name, selected engine, launch customer, or confirmed entry-into-service date. Aviation Week’s June 2025 report covered the concept and Embraer’s assessment of it.

In June 2025, Commercial Aircraft CEO Arjan Meijer said engine technology had not advanced enough to justify launching the program and described the idea as “on ice.” He also said a future aircraft would need full fly-by-wire and a jet-like cabin and passenger experience. Those were conditions for a possible future product, not evidence that Embraer had frozen a design.
How the proposal’s status changed
- Around 2019: Embraer’s turboprop ambitions were first reported as a concept. Aviation Week’s 2026 status report looks back at those plans.
- 2022: Embraer’s sustainability report described the initiative as early-stage and projected it would start operating in 2028. That was a historical forecast, not a current schedule or a milestone the aircraft reached. Embraer Annual Sustainability Report 2022.
- June 18, 2025: Meijer said the proposal remained “on ice” because engine technology did not justify launching a program. Aviation Week’s report.
- Q3 2025 earnings-call Q&A: Gomes Neto said the turboprop initiative had been cancelled, not put on hold. Published transcript.
- July 21, 2026: Aviation Week reported that Embraer had “completely shelved” its former ambitions. Aviation Week’s update is partially paywalled.
The E175-E2 is a separate program—and a pause
The E175-E2 is a jet, and its status should not be confused with the turboprop cancellation. In the same earnings-call Q&A, Gomes Neto identified the E175-E2 as the program that was on hold.

Embraer’s February 2025 material fact said development of the E175-E2 was paused for an additional four years. The company linked the decision to U.S. mainline scope-clause discussions concerning aircraft of up to 76 seats, global commercial-aviation conditions, and continued interest in the current E175. Embraer said it expected to resume E175-E2 development after that period, requiring a revised entry-into-service schedule. That expectation applies to the E175-E2 only; it is not a timetable for reviving the turboprop. Embraer’s February 2025 material fact.

- ✈️【PT6A Turboprop Engine Background】The PT6A turboprop engine is a widely used medium-power aircraft engine applied in both civil and military aviation. This model recreates the structural layout of the PT6A engine, presenting key components and airflow pathways through a semi-sectioned configuration.
- ⚙️【Motor-Driven Mechanical Operation】The model integrates a 12V DC motor that drives the internal compressor and propeller shaft components. When powered, the rotating blades demonstrate the mechanical relationship between compressor stages and turbine operation.
- 🧩【100+ Component Mechanical Assembly】The structure contains over 100 individual parts forming the compressor section, turbine stage, gearbox housing, and outer casing. The modular design reflects the layered construction commonly found in turboprop engines.
- 🧱【Industrial-Grade 3D Printing & CNC Process】Most structural components are manufactured from resin plastic using high-precision industrial-grade 3D printing technology, with selected parts processed through CNC machining to preserve complex geometry and structural detail.
- 🎁【Engineering Display & Collectible Model】Once assembled, the model forms a detailed mechanical display that demonstrates turboprop engine operation. Suitable for STEM education, engineering demonstration, desktop mechanical decoration, or as a collectible aviation model.

What is—and is not—established
- Established: Embraer’s CEO said the turboprop initiative had been cancelled and was not on hold as of the Q3 2025 earnings-call Q&A.
- Established: The proposal had been discussed as a 70- and 90-seat aircraft concept, and in June 2025 Embraer cited insufficient engine-technology progress as a reason not to launch it.
- Not established: A production-ready design, selected engine, formal aircraft designation, launch customer, or current entry-into-service date.
- Not established: A current commitment to restart the turboprop program. Gomes Neto said future circumstances could change, but did not announce a plan to resume it.
