The account comes from people familiar with the conversation, not a public transcript. Reuters, summarizing Axios’s reporting, said the call lasted 25 minutes and that Musk offered to continue supplying Starlink satellites.
Did Elon Musk join Trump’s call with Zelensky?
Axios reported on November 8, 2024, that Zelensky called Trump two days earlier to congratulate him on his election victory and that Musk joined the conversation. The report attributed Musk’s presence to people with knowledge of the call; no public recording or transcript was cited. Axios’s account also said Zelensky was somewhat reassured by what he heard, while noting that Zelensky said he could not yet know what Trump’s actions would be.
What was reportedly said about Starlink?
Reuters summarized Axios’s account as saying the call lasted 25 minutes and Musk said he would continue supplying Starlink satellites. Those details were attributed to Axios’s unnamed sources, rather than to a public statement by Musk or a released call transcript. Reuters’s summary therefore supports describing this as reported participation and a reported offer, not as a verified transcript of the exchange.
What did Zelensky say publicly?
Zelensky’s own public description was upbeat. The Associated Press reported on November 6 that he called the conversation an “excellent call” and said: “We agreed to maintain close dialogue and advance our cooperation.” The AP report records Zelensky’s public assessment; it is distinct from Axios’s account of what unnamed sources said about the call and his private reaction.

What this report does—and does not—establish
The call took place as Trump received congratulations from leaders after winning the 2024 election. On November 8, Axios reported that Trump had not yet spoken with Russian President Vladimir Putin since the election. A November 10 Axios follow-up discussed a reported private call with Putin and said Trump’s team did not comment on private calls. These dated reports do not establish a complete list of Trump’s conversations or their full contents.
For Musk, the specific account establishes only that he was reportedly present on this one call and reportedly spoke about continuing Starlink supply. The cited coverage does not establish that he had been appointed a diplomat, had authority to negotiate for the U.S. government, or joined calls with other world leaders. Axios’s November 10 follow-up likewise concerns a separate reported conversation; it does not turn the Zelensky call into evidence of a formal role for Musk.
