How the albums reached the UK charts
All five albums reached No. 1 on the UK Albums Chart, according to the album chart records compiled by Official Charts.

- + was Sheeran’s debut major-label studio album and reached No. 1 in the UK.
- × reached No. 1 in the UK.
- ÷ reached No. 1 in the UK and opened with 672,000 UK chart-sales units in 2017.
- No.6 Collaborations Project reached No. 1 in the UK.
- = (Equals) reached No. 1 in the UK.
Official Charts reported that ÷’s opening-week total combined physical sales, downloads and streaming-equivalent sales. Those 672,000 units were chart sales, not 672,000 physical copies. The report quoted Sheeran’s reaction: “Wow! What a phenomenal week. To every person who’s bought the album – thank you. I’m buzzing!” (Official Charts, March 2017.)
Why “copies sold” needs a qualification
Album sales figures do not always mean physical records alone. UK chart totals may combine physical purchases, paid downloads and streaming-equivalent units. The Official Charts breakdown for ÷’s first week shows how these measures can appear together. The cumulative figures in the table are best described as reported UK sales, with their reported cutoff dates—not as a uniform worldwide tally of pure physical copies.
Rank #2
- +-=÷× TOUR COLLECTION’ brings together some of the biggest songs Ed Sheeran has been performing on his tour from his decade-spanning mathematical album era. 22 studio tracks in all, including favorites such as Perfect,Shape of You,Photograph,Shivers,Thinking out Loud & more.
For ×, IFPI separately reported 4.4 million global physical and digital album sales in 2014, excluding streams. That is a distinct measure with a different geography and timeframe; it should not be compared directly with the cumulative UK figures above or treated as ×’s lifetime worldwide total. (IFPI’s 2014 chart.)
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What these figures do—and do not—show
The reported figures establish that five albums passed one million in the UK and identify ÷ as the largest reported UK total in this compilation. They do not establish comparable worldwide pure-copy totals for all five albums, or provide a single-date comparison across every album. A UK chart No. 1 is evidence of chart performance, not by itself a measure of worldwide copies sold.
