eBay announced its Apple Pay rollout in July 2018; it was not a new feature in 2026. The initial U.S. launch was phased and focused on the eBay app and mobile web on Apple devices. Apple Pay is still listed among eBay.com’s checkout options, but eBay says availability can depend on the item, location, delivery address, and device.
What eBay announced in 2018
In July 2018, eBay said it would add Apple Pay as one of the first payment methods in its new managed-payments experience. This was a phased rollout, not immediate access for every buyer or listing. The move was part of eBay’s broader plan to manage more of the payment experience itself and offer buyers additional ways to pay. Apple Pay was one option in that transition, not simply a replacement for PayPal.
How eBay’s Apple Pay rollout progressed
- July 2018: eBay announced a limited U.S. rollout, initially for participating sellers and Apple-device buyers.
- Late 2018: eBay’s managed-payments initiative began operating in the United States and Germany.

How to pay with Apple Pay on eBay
- Open an eligible listing and choose Buy It Now, or add items to your cart.
- Continue to eBay checkout and check the payment methods shown for that order. The Apple Pay option may not appear for every listing or checkout.
- If Apple Pay is offered, select it and review the payment sheet, card, contact details, and shipping address.
- Authenticate with Face ID, Touch ID, or your device passcode, then wait for eBay’s order confirmation.

Which devices and browsers can use it?
The original eBay announcement specified the app and mobile web on Apple iOS and Safari. That wording does not establish that Apple Pay will appear on every desktop computer or browser. Apple documents Apple Pay on the web for supported devices and browsers; on a Mac, authorization may involve Touch ID or an Apple Pay-capable iPhone or Apple Watch, depending on the setup. You generally need an Apple Pay-capable device, a card added to Apple Wallet, and a participating card issuer. Apple Pay is not available in every country or region, and card support depends on the issuer. Apple Pay overview

Why Apple Pay might not appear
Apple Pay’s continued acceptance on eBay does not mean it is available for every purchase. eBay says payment choices can vary with the item’s price and category, the buyer’s location, the delivery address, and the device. Browser or checkout compatibility, card and issuer support, and the seller’s participation in a particular payment flow can also affect what is shown. The absence of an Apple Pay button does not by itself mean the service has been discontinued.
If Apple Pay is missing or checkout fails, eBay recommends checking the listing and payment details, trying another browser or device, signing out and back in, clearing browser cache and cookies, and confirming that the billing address matches the payment method and the card has not expired. Apple Pay and eBay purchase protection
Apple Pay is a way to authorize payment; it is not a separate guarantee that an order qualifies for eBay Money Back Guarantee. eBay notes that not all payment methods are eligible for every protection, and coverage depends on the transaction and applicable policy. Complete payment through eBay checkout, keep the order confirmation, and review the listing’s shipping, return, and protection terms.
