Eastern Airlines is a current U.S.-based airline brand that advertises scheduled passenger service as well as charter/ACMI and cargo operations. It is not the same operating airline as the original Eastern Air Lines, which the current company says ceased operations in 1991. For travelers, the key practical point is to confirm that a route is bookable on their exact dates and review the fare and baggage terms before paying.
What is Eastern Airlines today?
Eastern Air Holdings presents Eastern Airlines as its airline brand and describes three areas of business: charter and ACMI operations, cargo, and scheduled passenger service. ACMI refers generally to an arrangement in which an aircraft is provided with crew, maintenance, and insurance; the company’s service categories do not establish the terms of any particular contract. Eastern’s official website is the source for its current service descriptions and booking links.
Eastern is distinct from China Eastern Airlines and from other carriers with similar names. The name also carries a historical association, but that does not make the current company a continuous operating airline from the original Eastern Air Lines.
Is Eastern Airlines still flying?
The company currently advertises scheduled passenger operations alongside charter/ACMI and cargo services. Its home page names Miami, Santo Domingo, and Havana, but that is not a live route map or confirmation that a particular flight is operating. Routes and schedules can vary, so check the official booking channel for your departure date before making plans.

How to check a route for your travel date
- Open Eastern’s official website and follow its booking option.
- Search your origin, destination, and exact travel dates. Confirm that the itinerary returns a bookable result rather than relying only on a city name shown on the company home page.
- Review the itinerary, total price, baggage allowance, change and cancellation terms, and any services included before purchase.
- After booking, use your confirmation and the airline’s current official guidance for schedule changes, disruption support, and baggage questions.
The company’s separate cargo page describes a broader network, including New York origins. Cargo destinations should not be read as passenger routes.
Is Eastern Airlines the same as the original Eastern Air Lines?
No. Eastern’s own history says the original airline was founded in 1926 and ceased operations in 1991. The current company describes later, separate businesses that reused the Eastern name; it says Dynamic International Airways acquired the name and rebranded as Eastern Airlines in 2018. That shared name and company-published history do not establish uninterrupted corporate or operating continuity with the original airline.

Where does Eastern Airlines fly?
The company’s main website advertises passenger service involving Miami, Santo Domingo, and Havana. It does not provide departure dates or live booking results on that overview page, so the cities alone cannot confirm that a route is available on your dates. Verify the itinerary through the official booking channel before arranging connections, lodging, or ground transport.

Eastern also describes a broader cargo network on its cargo page. Because cargo and passenger networks serve different purposes, cargo destinations should not be treated as evidence of passenger service. Eastern’s cargo information is separate from its passenger offerings.
What planes does Eastern Airlines use?
Eastern’s passenger page names the Boeing 777-200ER and Boeing 767-300ER. Its company history page lists six of each type, but those are undated company-published fleet counts and may not represent the aircraft currently operating. Fleet descriptions do not guarantee the aircraft assigned to any particular flight; check the aircraft shown for your itinerary and reconfirm as departure approaches.

Eastern says it works with tour operators on packages that may combine airfare, accommodation, and transfers. Package contents depend on the specific offer, so read the package terms rather than assuming every booking includes those items.

Promotional statements about comfort, reliability, safety, Wi-Fi, entertainment, or meals should not be treated as a guarantee that a feature is available on a particular flight.
How to compare Eastern with another airline
There is not enough evidence here to rank Eastern against other airlines overall. For a useful comparison, look at the same route and dates and check:
- Whether the itinerary is actually bookable.
- The total fare and baggage included.
- Departure times, connections, and schedule options.
- The aircraft and cabin details shown for the specific flight.
- Ticket-change and cancellation terms.
- How the airline handles customer support and disruptions.
Use current booking results and contract documents for each carrier; a general fleet description or promotional statement is not a substitute for trip-specific terms.
