Important date note: the deals behind the “up to $600 off” headline were reported on November 15, 2025. As of September 8, 2026, treat the prices below as historical unless a retailer has independently reactivated the same offer.
The headline was technically accurate, but only one listed configuration received the full $600 discount: a 15-inch M3 MacBook Air with 24GB of memory and 512GB of storage. Most current-generation M4 models were discounted by $250, while the lowest sticker price belonged to an older M1 model.

The historical deal list at a glance

What “up to $600 off” really meant
The $600 saving applied to the 15-inch M3 model with 24GB of RAM and a 512GB SSD. It did not apply across the MacBook Air range. The main M4 offers were $250 reductions, and the restored 15-inch M3 listing was advertised as $500 below its stated reference price.
The $599 M1 was only $50 below its stated reference price. Its lower purchase price reflected its age, 8GB of memory and 256GB of storage—not an unusually large discount.
This distinction matters because the largest dollar saving is not automatically the best purchase. A discounted M3 with more memory and storage may be attractive for a demanding user, while a new M4 may be the safer choice for someone planning to keep the laptop for several years.

The best deal depends on the buyer
Best current-generation value: 13-inch M4, 16GB/256GB
At the reported $749.99 price, the 13-inch M4 was the strongest entry point among the new M4 models. It offered the newer platform and 16GB of RAM at the lowest reported M4 price.
The compromise was storage. A 256GB SSD can work for cloud-first users who mainly browse, stream, use web applications and keep large files elsewhere. It is less comfortable for substantial photo libraries, video projects, games or extensive local media.
Best practical configuration: 13-inch M4, 16GB/512GB
The 13-inch M4 with 512GB of storage at $949.99 was the more balanced option for many buyers. The extra storage reduces the need to constantly delete files or rely on external drives, while 16GB remains a sensible baseline for a laptop intended to last several years.

Best large-screen value: 15-inch M4, 16GB/256GB
The 15-inch M4 was reported at $949.99, the same price as the 13-inch M4 with 512GB. Choose it if a larger workspace matters more than built-in storage. It is better suited to spreadsheets, split-screen work and editing timelines, while the 13-inch model is easier to carry.

Best headline discount: 15-inch M3, 24GB/512GB
The 15-inch M3 at $1,099 delivered the largest advertised saving and a generous memory and storage combination. It could make sense for a buyer whose work benefits from 24GB of RAM and who is comfortable choosing an older generation.
It was not automatically a better value than a new M4. Compare the complete configuration, condition and expected ownership period—not just the $600 figure.

Best restored bargain: 15-inch M3 at $799
The restored 15-inch M3 listed at Walmart for $799 was potentially compelling because it combined a large display with a low price. However, “restored” and “like new” do not mean factory-new. Confirm the seller, battery condition, warranty, return window, cosmetic grade and included accessories before buying.
Cheapest entry price: 13-inch M1 at $599
The M1 was the least expensive option in the reported list, but it should be treated as a basic-use or clearance fallback. Its 8GB of RAM and 256GB SSD are limiting for heavier work, and its older platform may offer a shorter remaining software-support runway than a newer model.
Should you choose M4, M3 or M1?
- Choose M4 if you want a newer platform, are buying new and expect to keep the laptop for several years.
- Consider M3 if the discount is substantial and the machine provides materially more memory or storage at a similar price.
- Consider M1 only cautiously for browsing, schoolwork, streaming and documents, provided the condition, support expectations and low price are acceptable.
The cited deal coverage establishes the configurations and prices but does not provide a complete performance test between the chips. Avoid assuming a precise performance difference from the deal list alone.

How much memory and storage do you need?
Memory
- 16GB: the sensible baseline for most new buyers, especially anyone planning several years of use.
- 24GB or more: worthwhile for heavier multitasking, software development, creative applications, virtual machines or unusually long ownership.
- 8GB: suitable mainly for light workloads and lower-cost purchases where the limitations are understood.
Storage
- 256GB: workable for cloud-first users with modest local files.
- 512GB: the safer choice for most people who keep photos, projects, applications or media locally.
- 1TB or more: better for professional media work or anyone who does not want to manage external storage.
“MacBook Air M4” is not a complete product description. Screen size, memory, storage, GPU-core configuration, condition and seller can materially change the value.
New versus restored: the trade-off
A new laptop generally offers more predictable battery condition, a clearer manufacturer warranty position, less risk of cosmetic wear and an easier resale story. A restored or refurbished-equivalent laptop can provide a larger screen or more capable configuration for less money.
Before buying restored inventory, verify:
- Who actually sells and ships the item.
- Whether the warranty is from Apple, the retailer or a third-party seller.
- The stated battery-health standard, if any.
- The return period and restocking rules.
- Cosmetic grading and whether the original accessories are included.
- Whether the listing is marketplace inventory rather than first-party stock.
Buy early or wait?
Buy early when the exact configuration you want is in stock, the price is unusually attractive, the item is confirmed new or acceptably restored, and the retailer offers a straightforward return policy.
Recommended Free Tools
Waiting is more reasonable when the discount is ordinary, the model is already old, the configuration has too little memory or storage, or the listing depends on uncertain marketplace stock. Early promotions sometimes continue into the main Black Friday event, but historical repetition is not a guarantee.
Later 2025 coverage reported M4 MacBook Air prices starting around $749 during the main Black Friday period, but those were also 2025 prices—not a promise about September 2026 or a future holiday sale. See the 9to5Mac Black Friday roundup and AppleInsider’s MacBook Air deals archive for the historical context.
Checkout checklist
- Confirm the chip generation: M1, M3 or M4.
- Confirm the display size: 13-inch or 15-inch.
- Check RAM and SSD capacity separately.
- Verify whether the item is new, restored, refurbished, open-box or used.
- Check the retailer and the individual seller.
- Review warranty and return terms.
- For restored or used inventory, check battery condition.
- Confirm keyboard layout, color and included accessories.
- Look for membership, coupon, trade-in or other purchase requirements.
- Confirm the final price and stock status at checkout.
For current listings, start with the retailer’s own pages rather than assuming the historical deal is still active: Apple, Amazon, Walmart, B&H and Best Buy.
