EAI Risk Zones: Assessing Entergy Arkansas’s 4.875% Bonds Due 2066

EAI’s 4.875% bonds mature in 2066, but their coupon and offering terms cannot establish today’s trading zones. Here’s the market and issuer data a rigorous assessment needs.

There are no defensible numerical trading zones for EAI in the available dated information: no current price, yield, spread, or trading-volume data are established. EAI is the NYSE ticker for Entergy Arkansas, LLC’s 4.875% First Mortgage Bonds due September 1, 2066. For this long-dated, callable bond, useful risk zones must be built from a dated market quote and current issuer information—not inferred from its coupon or original offering terms.

What does EAI represent?

EAI is the New York Stock Exchange ticker for Entergy Arkansas, LLC’s First Mortgage Bonds, 4.875% Series due September 1, 2066. The issuer’s SEC-filed securities description, dated February 18, 2025, says the full aggregate principal amount of this series—$410 million—was then outstanding. That is a dated amount, not a confirmation of how much remains outstanding today. Read the issuer’s securities description; an SEC-filed document also identifies the NYSE listing. The 2016 offering supplement sets a 4.875% annual coupon, paid quarterly on March 1, June 1, September 1, and December 1. The coupon describes interest on principal under the bond’s terms; it is not the bond’s current yield, which depends on its market price and other cash-flow assumptions. Why can’t the available facts establish numerical risk zones?

A price level cannot be evaluated in isolation. A quote is needed to assess whether the bond trades below, at, or above par; to calculate yields; and to judge the effect of a potential redemption. A dated bid, ask, recent trade, and volume are also needed to understand how readily a position might be traded and at what transaction cost. None of those current market inputs is established here, so assigning EAI a buy, sell, support, resistance, or fair-value price would imply evidence that is not available.

The offering terms are important inputs, but they are not market signals. The bond’s maturity and coupon do not tell a reader what it is worth today, and a past outstanding-principal figure does not establish present liquidity or credit quality. The following framework identifies what a dated analysis would need to test without presenting hypothetical levels as current ones.

How should an investor build EAI risk zones?

1. Start with a dated, executable-looking market snapshot

Record the quote’s date and time, price convention, bid and ask, recent trade, and reported volume. A last trade alone may be stale or may not show the price available for a new transaction. Calculate the bid-ask spread and compare it with the price; a wide spread or sparse trading can make a theoretical zone difficult to act on. Treat a quote as a snapshot, not a standing valuation.

2. Compare price with par and evaluate the relevant yields

Use the observed price to calculate yield to maturity and, because the bond is callable, yield under the applicable redemption scenarios. The redemption provision allows the issuer to call the bonds on or after September 1, 2021, at 100% of principal plus accrued and unpaid interest through, but excluding, the redemption date. A premium price may therefore be exposed to a shorter-than-expected holding period and a different realized return if the bonds are redeemed. Compare the yield assumptions and cash flows rather than treating the coupon rate as a return forecast.

A practical zone model might label a price range “lower-risk” only relative to an investor’s stated valuation assumptions, a range near a chosen required return as “monitor,” and a range offering inadequate compensation for the identified risks as “avoid or reassess.” Those labels require explicit assumptions, including the quote, yield calculation, call scenarios, and the investor’s required return; they are not objective ratings supplied by the bond’s legal documents.

3. Account for interest-rate sensitivity

With a September 2066 maturity, EAI is a very long-dated bond. All else equal, long-duration bonds are more sensitive to changes in market interest rates than shorter-dated bonds, so a rate increase can weigh on price and a rate decline can support it. The actual sensitivity depends on price, cash flows, yield, and call assumptions; a dated duration or scenario calculation is needed before attaching a price impact to a particular Treasury-rate move. Do not treat a broad Treasury benchmark as a complete valuation model for this issuer’s bond.

4. Review issuer credit and the mortgage structure

The bonds are described as secured by a first mortgage lien on substantially all of the issuer’s property, subject to exceptions and permitted liens in the mortgage. That is a legal security interest, not a guarantee of repayment or a published estimate of what holders would recover after a default. Credit analysis should consider the issuer’s current financial condition, operating risks, debt obligations, and the terms and priority of claims—not the lien description alone.

Entergy Arkansas’s 2026 prospectus reports $5.06 billion in aggregate first mortgage bonds outstanding as of November 30, 2025. That figure covers the issuer’s aggregate first mortgage bonds, not just EAI, and is dated; it should not be presented as a current total without checking later filings. The prospectus also says the mortgage permits additional bond issuance without notice to or consent of existing holders, subject to the mortgage’s issuance restrictions. Additional secured debt can matter to an existing holder’s capital-structure analysis. Review the 2026 prospectus supplement.

The prospectus points readers to risk factors in the issuer’s 2024 Form 10-K and quarterly reports through September 30, 2025. These are the filings identified in that prospectus, not a substitute for checking later reports when making a current assessment. Review the issuer’s own risk-factor and forward-looking-information disclosures before drawing conclusions about credit risk.

5. Include call and reinvestment risk

If the issuer redeems the bonds, holders receive principal at the stated call price plus eligible accrued interest, and may have to reinvest the proceeds at prevailing rates. The call right can limit the benefit of holding a premium-priced bond for its full stated maturity. A risk-zone analysis should therefore distinguish a maturity-based valuation from one that incorporates the permitted redemption scenarios; the relevant outcome depends on price and cash flows, not simply on the 2066 maturity date.

6. Test whether the proposed zone is usable in practice

Compare the proposed entry or exit levels with current bid and ask quotes and observed volume. If trading is thin or the spread is large, a chart-derived threshold may not be a realistic execution price. State whether the analysis uses bid, ask, midpoint, or trade price, and keep the liquidity assessment separate from the bond’s contractual coupon and redemption terms.

What information is needed before assigning price levels?

  1. Obtain a dated EAI quote with bid, ask, last trade, and volume; record the source and timestamp.

  2. Check current issuer filings for updated debt amounts, risk disclosures, and any relevant notices affecting the bonds.

  3. Calculate yields using the observed price and stated coupon cash flows, including relevant call scenarios under the redemption terms.

  4. Model interest-rate sensitivity and issuer-credit assumptions, and state the method and assumptions behind each scenario.

  5. Set any zones against a clearly stated valuation or required-return framework, then test whether the quoted spread and volume make those levels practical.

Until those inputs are documented, “risk zones” for EAI are a framework for analysis, not verified numerical trading levels.
