EA-owned Respawn confirmed in April 2025 that it was ending two early-stage projects and making targeted adjustments to teams working on Apex Legends and Star Wars Jedi. Bloomberg reporting identified one canceled project as an extraction shooter set in the Titanfall universe. The available reporting does not establish that it was Titanfall 3, and the reported layoff figures are estimates rather than an official final count.

What EA and Respawn confirmed

Respawn said it had decided to “step away from two early-stage incubation projects” and make targeted adjustments across its Apex Legends and Star Wars Jedi teams. Its public statement did not name either project. You can read the statement as reproduced by Game Informer.

That distinction matters: the studio confirmed the cancellations and team adjustments, but the identification of a Titanfall project came from separate reporting, not Respawn’s announcement.

What was the canceled Titanfall project?

Bloomberg reporting, as summarized by Game Informer, described one of the canceled projects as an extraction shooter set in the Titanfall universe and still very early in development. Respawn did not publicly confirm that description or give the project an official title.

It has not been established as Titanfall 3

The sources identify no official title and do not establish that the project was a numbered sequel. Calling it Titanfall 3 goes beyond what has been reported. Its genre and setting are attributed to Bloomberg’s reporting; the studio’s statement only referred to two early-stage incubation projects.

How it differs from released Titanfall games

EA’s franchise page lists Titanfall and Titanfall 2 as released games. They are separate from the canceled, early-stage project described in reporting. EA’s Titanfall franchise page provides information on the existing games.

How many jobs were cut?

Reuters reported Bloomberg’s estimate that EA cut about 300 to 400 positions, including around 100 at Respawn. These are reported estimates, not an exact final tally confirmed by EA. Reuters’ report attributes the figures to Bloomberg.

Game Informer’s update gave a different EA-wide range—roughly 200 to 300—while also reporting about 100 cuts at Respawn. Because the summaries differ on the company-wide estimate, the total should not be treated as settled or combined into a single confirmed count. Respawn announced targeted adjustments but did not publish a final headcount in the cited statement.

What support did Respawn describe?

EA said it was offering support to affected employees, including exploring other opportunities within EA. That describes an effort to help employees find internal openings; it is not a promise that everyone affected would be reassigned. The statement is reproduced by Game Informer.

What is still unknown?

The sources reviewed do not establish the canceled project’s official name, budget, team size, platforms, intended release date, or whether it was intended as a numbered sequel. EA announced that it completed its acquisition of Respawn in 2017; the canceled project was being developed at Respawn, but that does not supply the missing project details. EA’s acquisition announcement covers the ownership history.
