Dwayne Johnson’s largest reported movie deal is an estimated $50 million for Red One, but that figure is not a simple acting salary: it combines acting and producing fees with a buyout of backend participation. For more directly comparable reported paydays, Jumanji: The Next Level and Red Notice are each listed at $23.5 million, though the sources describe them differently and vary in reliability.
Because film contracts are private and reported figures can cover different kinds of compensation, this is a ranking of disclosed estimates—not a verified ledger of Johnson’s final earnings or take-home pay.
Reported Dwayne Johnson movie pay, ranked
The table ranks the highest reported amounts in the available sources. The order is numerical, but the figures are not all equivalent: Red One is a combined deal estimate, while other entries are reported or estimated film paydays.
| Rank | Film and year | Reported amount | What the figure represents | Source and strength |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Red One (2024) | $50 million | Estimated acting and producing fees plus a buyout of backend participation for both roles; not an acting-only salary. | Forbes Australia’s 2025 estimate. |
| 2 (tie) | Jumanji: The Next Level (2019) | $23.5 million | Reported upfront payday; described at the time as his biggest upfront payday to that point. | The Guardian’s 2019 report, citing Forbes. |
| 2 (tie) | Red Notice (2021) | $23.5 million | Estimated film payout; the compilation does not establish that it is the same kind of payment as the Jumanji upfront figure. | Celebrity Net Worth’s secondary salary roundup, updated March 2026. |
| 4 | Black Adam (2022) | $22.5 million | Estimated salary. | Celebrity Net Worth’s secondary salary roundup, updated March 2026. |
The $50 million Red One estimate is the largest figure in this set, but it should be read as a fee-plus-buyout package rather than compared directly with upfront salaries. Forbes Australia says the estimate includes compensation for acting and producing and a buyout of backend participation. It does not establish Johnson’s final net proceeds.

Earlier major movie paydays
Two earlier reported amounts help show how Johnson’s film compensation developed, but neither changes the top ranking above.
- Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle (2017): about $20 million. Axios relayed The Hollywood Reporter’s 2017 salary reporting, preserving the amount as approximate.
- The Scorpion King (2002): $5.5 million. Guinness World Records records this payment for Johnson’s title role and identifies it as the highest salary for a debut starring role.
The Guinness figure is a useful historical record, not a like-for-like measure of later deals. The available sources do not provide an inflation-adjusted comparison, so these amounts are presented as reported for their respective films and years.

Movie compensation can include an upfront fee, producer compensation, backend participation, or a buyout of future participation. A headline number may cover one component or several. Without the underlying contract and a consistent definition of pay, placing every amount in a single ranking can suggest more precision than the evidence supports.
- Upfront pay is not the same as a total package. The reported Jumanji: The Next Level figure is an upfront payday; the Red One estimate includes acting and producing fees and a backend buyout.
- Some figures are secondary estimates. The Red Notice and Black Adam amounts come from a secondary compilation, not an audited contract disclosure.
- Reported pay is not take-home pay. The cited figures do not establish taxes, representation costs, other deductions, or Johnson’s final net earnings.
- Annual earnings are not a single-film salary. Forbes’ reported $89.4 million in earnings for the 12 months discussed in 2019 included income from films, television work on Ballers, and backend participation. It cannot be assigned to one movie.
Accordingly, the ranking identifies the largest reported figures and labels what each is said to include; it cannot establish a definitive, apples-to-apples total for every role.
