Before Canada’s Copa América semifinal against Argentina in July 2024, Drake reportedly wagered $300,000 on Canada to win. The reported potential payout was $2.88 million—but Argentina won 2–0, so the bet did not pay out.
What Drake reportedly bet on Canada
Sportsnet and TyC Sports reported on July 9, 2024, that Drake had placed a $300,000 wager on Canada to beat Argentina in their Copa América semifinal. TyC Sports said Drake shared an image of the wager on his Instagram story; no independently verified bet slip or direct platform record was reported.
The quoted $2.88 million was the reported potential payout if Canada won, not money Drake was guaranteed to receive. His reported stake and the possible return were covered by Sportsnet on July 9, 2024 and TyC Sports on July 9, 2024.
TyC Sports reported that Drake captioned the Instagram story, “This could get Messi.” The outlet interpreted it as wordplay warning that the situation could get rough; that explanation was TyC Sports’ interpretation, not a recorded explanation from Drake.
