Downtown Los Angeles Shopping Centers: Alternatives to The Bloc

FIGat7th is the closest conventional shopping-center alternative to The Bloc. For specialty browsing, Little Tokyo, or a food-focused outing, consider Downtown LA’s districts and Grand Central Market.

FIGat7th is the closest direct alternative to The Bloc if you want a concentrated downtown shopping center with familiar retailers, dining, and access to rail. For a different kind of visit, consider the Fashion and Jewelry districts for specialized storefront browsing, Japanese Village Plaza for a Little Tokyo outing, or Grand Central Market for food. These are not all like-for-like malls, so the best choice depends on what you want to do.

Which destination is the closest alternative to The Bloc?

FIGat7th is the strongest match for shoppers looking for another conventional, concentrated retail destination. Both it and The Bloc are in Downtown LA’s Financial District, but they are separate properties: The Bloc is at 750 W 7th St, while FIGat7th is at 735 S Figueroa St, according to the Downtown LA shopping directory.

FIGat7th’s official shopping directory lists a mix that includes H&M, Nordstrom Rack, Sephora, Target, and Zara, alongside retailers such as Bath & Body Works, LensCrafters, Sunglass Hut, and T-Mobile. The directory can change, so check it for current tenants before making a trip.

How the alternatives differ

Destination Scale and location Best suited to
FIGat7th Concentrated shopping, dining, and fitness destination in the Financial District Familiar chain retailers and a conventional shopping-center visit
Fashion District District-scale storefront browsing Specialized shopping across multiple businesses and streets
Jewelry District District-scale storefront browsing Jewelry-focused shopping across multiple businesses
Japanese Village Plaza Neighborhood shopping destination in Little Tokyo, at 335 E 2nd St A more specialized stop as part of a Little Tokyo visit
Grand Central Market Food market in Downtown LA A meal or food-led outing, rather than conventional apparel-and-goods shopping

Shop across the Fashion or Jewelry districts

The Fashion and Jewelry districts are alternatives when you want to browse specialized storefronts across an area rather than visit one mall. Downtown LA’s shopping directory organizes businesses by neighborhood and type, and its visitor guides highlight both districts.

Unlike a single center, a district does not have one shared tenant list, set of hours, or visitor-service operation. Check the individual businesses you plan to visit and allow time to move between storefronts.

Choose Japanese Village Plaza for a Little Tokyo outing

Japanese Village Plaza is in Little Tokyo at 335 E 2nd St, according to Downtown LA’s shopping-center listing. It is a neighborhood shopping destination, not a direct substitute for a broad retail center such as The Bloc or FIGat7th. For specific shops and current opening information, consult current listings before going.

Choose Grand Central Market for food

Grand Central Market is a better fit for a food-led stop or a broader Downtown LA outing than for apparel or general merchandise shopping. Its official visit page says the market opened in 1917 and has more than 40 vendors. Vendor offerings and schedules may change, so check the market’s current information if you are planning around a particular stop.

Compare access before you go

FIGat7th’s Downtown LA destination listing reports 500 shopping and dining parking spaces in the adjacent structure at 945 W. 8th Street and identifies rail access. Those are details reported by the destination page, not a guarantee of current availability, rates, or service. Check current parking and transit information before setting out.

For district and neighborhood visits, access depends on the particular businesses and route you choose; there is no single parking or transit arrangement for an entire district. Compare the locations you plan to visit and verify current conditions.
