Doppel announced a $14 million Series A on January 23, 2024, led by Andreessen Horowitz (a16z). The cybersecurity company said it would use the funding to automate detection and takedown work involving fake websites, phishing domains, impersonation accounts, fraudulent advertising, disinformation and related social-engineering attacks. That announcement is historical: Doppel later disclosed a $35 million Series B in May 2025 and a $70 million Series C, and now describes its broader offering as a social-engineering-defense platform.

What Doppel raised and who invested

The Series A was $14 million, with Andreessen Horowitz as lead investor. Strategic Cyber Ventures also participated, alongside Frederic Kerrest of Okta, Emilio Escobar of Datadog, Andy Ozment of Capital One, Ryan Carlson of Chainguard, Ryan Noon of Material Security, Ramsey Homsany of Octant and Prafulla Dhariwal of OpenAI. Existing backers included South Park Commons, SVAngel, Gokul Rajaram and Sabrina Hahn.

Doppel said the round brought its total fundraising to $19 million at the time. The company was founded in 2022. Doppel’s Series A announcement identifies the named customers Coinbase, VSCO and ARK Invest.

The brand-protection problem Doppel targets

Brand abuse extends well beyond counterfeit merchandise. Attackers can register look-alike domains, create fake customer-support accounts, run fraudulent advertisements, imitate executives, distribute deepfakes, promote crypto scams or coordinate disinformation across several services. Telegram and other messaging channels can be especially difficult for conventional brand-monitoring programs to track.

Security, legal, trust-and-safety and intellectual-property teams must determine which alerts represent active harm, collect evidence, submit requests to different platforms and registrars, and monitor whether campaigns reappear. The operational bottleneck is therefore not simply finding a suspicious mention; it is connecting related signals and getting harmful infrastructure disrupted.

How the AI-powered platform works in practice

“AI-powered” describes a workflow rather than a guarantee of autonomous enforcement. Doppel’s materials describe functions that broadly follow these stages:

  1. Discover: Monitor domains, social networks, marketplaces, advertisements, apps, dark-web sources, messaging services and crypto-related channels.
  2. Classify: Identify likely phishing, fraud, impersonation, disinformation or other brand misuse.
  3. Correlate: Link accounts, domains, infrastructure and campaigns instead of treating every alert as unrelated.
  4. Prioritize: Separate active, high-risk campaigns from harmless references and lower-impact infringement.
  5. Investigate: Assemble context and evidence about the threat and associated infrastructure.
  6. Disrupt: Prepare, automate or accelerate takedown and escalation requests.
  7. Learn: Use analyst decisions and campaign outcomes to improve detection and operational handling.

Doppel calls its correlation layer a Threat Graph, which it says connects alerts into broader narratives and supports infrastructure disruption. The value of that approach depends on the quality, freshness and geographic coverage of the underlying signals.

What the Series A was intended to finance

  • Core research and development.
  • More automation and threat-intelligence capabilities.
  • Monitoring of dark-web, social-media and paid-ad channels.
  • Expanded customer-support and sales operations.
  • International growth.

These are the company’s stated uses of proceeds. The announcement alone does not establish revenue growth, customer retention, detection accuracy or return on investment.

What Doppel and a16z claimed about performance

Doppel said its AI and automation enabled analysts to operate at 10 times greater efficiency and that average support response times were measured in minutes. Those figures are company claims, not independently audited benchmarks.

In its investor announcement, a16z said its testing found Doppel was often three times faster at detecting and removing threats on popular social networks than larger incumbents, while covering platforms those incumbents did not. The public announcement does not provide the sample size, threat mix, comparison set, false-positive rate or definitions of “faster” and “coverage.” Buyers should request that methodology before treating the claims as a general performance advantage.

What happened after the $14 million round?

Doppel announced a $35 million Series B on May 2, 2025, led by Bessemer Venture Partners. The company reported a $205 million valuation and said total disclosed funding had reached $54.4 million. It later announced a $70 million Series C, also led by Bessemer with returning and new strategic investors. See the Series B announcement and Series C announcement.

Doppel’s current positioning is broader than the 2024 brand-protection description. Its company overview presents a Social Engineering Defense platform with three core areas:

  • Digital Risk Protection: External monitoring, investigation and disruption of impersonation, phishing and related threats.
  • Human Risk Management: Measures intended to reduce employee susceptibility, including simulations and security-awareness work.
  • Email Security: Protection against inbox-based social-engineering attacks.

As of August 18, 2026, Doppel said Email Security was generally available and cited expansion into Japan. Those are later company-reported developments, not features established by the 2024 Series A release.

How to evaluate Doppel against alternatives

The right comparison depends on the threat you are buying protection for. A counterfeit-heavy commerce program has different requirements from a bank defending executives, employees and phishing infrastructure.

Vendor Strongest apparent fit Main trade-off
Doppel Coordinated impersonation, phishing, fraud and broader social-engineering defense across channels Enterprise-oriented; public pricing is not apparent in the reviewed official material
ZeroFox Broad digital-risk protection, executive protection, brand and domain protection, investigations and takedowns Quote-based enterprise packaging complicates direct cost comparisons
Red Points Brand/IP enforcement, counterfeit and marketplace monitoring, domain and social-media abuse Generally a stronger fit for commerce and intellectual-property abuse than a full social-engineering-defense stack
Brand Protector Smaller brands seeking self-service software with published pricing Narrower scope for complex investigations, executive protection and large managed takedown programs

ZeroFox’s pricing page, reviewed August 16, 2026, listed bundles rather than dollar amounts: Foundation included two brand-protection assets, 10 domains and 250 annual takedowns; Core included five brand assets, 50 domains, 10 executive-protection assets and 500 annual takedowns; Premium included 50 brand assets, 100 domains, 100 executive-protection assets and 1,000 annual takedowns.

Red Points’ pricing page showed a self-serve option for basic needs and quote-based Starter, Professional and Enterprise plans. It emphasized flat-fee pricing with unlimited detections and takedowns within the agreed scope, without publishing a universal dollar amount. Brand Protector advertised $199 per month or $1,499 per year when reviewed August 16, 2026. That price is not directly comparable with an enterprise quote whose scope, markets, managed services and takedown volume differ.

Buyer checks before signing a contract

  • Coverage: Confirm the exact social networks, messaging services, marketplaces, app stores, ad networks, registrars, hosting providers and geographies included.
  • Detection: Ask for precision, recall, false-positive, time-to-detection and time-to-removal metrics, plus performance against AI-generated media.
  • Correlation: Determine whether the service links domains, accounts and infrastructure into campaigns or sends isolated alerts.
  • Remediation: Clarify which takedowns are automated, which require human review, and who handles rejected requests, appeals and counter-notices.
  • Integration: Check API, SIEM/SOAR, ticketing, email-security, collaboration and evidence-export capabilities.
  • Governance: Review privacy, scraping, monitoring and cross-border enforcement obligations, along with procedures for correcting false positives.
  • Measurement: Separate discovery, validation, submission, actual removal and recurrence; a detection timestamp is not a prevention result.

Limits of AI-powered brand protection

Generative AI helps attackers produce convincing text, images, audio and video, but automated detection can also mistake legitimate commentary, authorized campaigns or ordinary uses of a brand name for abuse. A vendor cannot unilaterally remove every item: platform policies, registrar and hosting procedures, jurisdiction, evidence quality and attacker persistence determine outcomes.

Coordinated campaigns are also harder than isolated infringements. A fake account, look-alike domain and scam advertisement may be one operation, so correlation can reduce analyst overload only if the signals arrive quickly and are linked accurately. Finally, the Series A performance claims do not establish universal superiority because the published material omits independent auditing and detailed methodology.
