New York’s Attorney General announced a $16.75 million DoorDash settlement on February 24, 2025, over a pay model that used some customer tips to offset guaranteed Dasher pay. The settlement covered qualifying New York deliveries from May 2017 through September 2019. The claim deadline passed on February 13, 2026, and claims are closed; the administrator says payments are being delivered to eligible workers.
What the New York settlement covered
The New York State Attorney General’s investigation concerned DoorDash’s guaranteed-pay model between May 2017 and September 2019. The AG said that, for some deliveries, customer tips were applied toward the amount DoorDash had guaranteed to pay the Dasher. As a result, some workers did not receive the full tip in addition to that guaranteed amount.

On February 24, 2025, Attorney General Letitia James announced a settlement providing $16.75 million in restitution. DoorDash also agreed to pay up to $1 million in settlement-administration costs, according to the Attorney General’s announcement. This was an investigation and settlement—not a criminal conviction or a court finding of guilt.
Who qualified for a payment?
Being a current or former Dasher was not, by itself, enough to qualify. The settlement covered workers with relevant New York deliveries during the covered period where a customer tipped and DoorDash did not pay more than the guaranteed amount offered when the Dasher accepted the order. The Attorney General’s Office (OAG) used delivery records to calculate individual awards.

The OAG said it would not issue an award below $10. Each worker’s share was proportional to the amount due compared with the total eligible amount, using the settlement fund. For the official eligibility explanation, see the New York Attorney General’s settlement information.
Can you still file a claim or check on a payment?
No new claim can be filed: the deadline was February 13, 2026. As of October 8, 2026, the official settlement administrator’s homepage says claims are closed and checks are being delivered to workers whom the OAG determined are owed at least $100.

The administrator says uncashed checks and unclaimed awards below $100 will be transferred to the unclaimed-property division of the Dasher’s last-known state of residence. If you believe you are owed money, use the official settlement FAQ or contact Atticus Administration at 1-800-270-1039 or [email protected] about an existing payment. These contacts are not a way to submit a late claim.
Avoid paid claim helpers and impersonators
Workers did not need to pay a representative to file or receive settlement money. The OAG warns about scammers who may spoof caller ID or email addresses. Do not pay someone promising to obtain a settlement award or share personal or financial information with an unsolicited claim helper; verify questions through the official settlement channels.

What DoorDash agreed to change in New York
The settlement terms also address how DoorDash presents and records pay for current and former Dashers using the app in New York State. The OAG describes requirements that include:
- Paying the full customer tip in addition to DoorDash’s guaranteed pay.
- Disclosing the pay model, estimated delivery distance, and minimum DoorDash pay before a Dasher accepts an order.
- Providing an in-app history that breaks down DoorDash compensation and customer tips. The OAG describes five months or 200 sessions of history, and the ability to request some delivery information for four years.
For workers outside New York City who are not subject to the city’s minimum-pay-rate requirements, the OAG also describes itemized pay information after a session. These provisions have geographic qualifications; the New York State settlement should not be read as a description of every NYC delivery-worker pay rule.

How this differs from the 2026 New York City settlement
A separate matter announced in September 2026 by the New York City Department of Consumer and Worker Protection (DCWP) concerns compliance with city delivery-worker pay laws—not the older state tip-offset case. The City describes a $131.5 million settlement, including more than $115 million in worker restitution and over $16 million in city penalties and administrative fines, for covered work dates from April 22, 2022 through November 29, 2026. The City says payments will be distributed in stages and workers do not need to file a claim. See the DCWP worker information page for that separate process.
DoorDash’s account of the city agreement describes approximately 264,000 Dashers receiving payments and different components of the settlement, including a resolution of a dispute about online time between deliveries. DoorDash’s figures and characterization are its own; the City presents the enforcement matter differently. Its statement says, “Dashers should be paid in full, on time, every time.” That remark concerns the NYC settlement, not the New York State tip settlement. The two agreements have different authorities, covered conduct, periods, and payment arrangements; their amounts should not be combined. DoorDash’s statement is available at its September 22, 2026 announcement.
