No—not in the way that headline suggests. X does not generally pay every Premium subscriber for liking, replying to, reposting, or chatting with another Premium user. Its Creator Revenue Sharing program pays eligible creators whose content receives qualifying engagement, and engagement from Premium users can influence the calculation.
In other words, the money usually flows to the eligible creator whose content is being viewed or engaged with—not automatically to the Premium user performing the action.

What X actually changed
X has moved from the older advertising-revenue-sharing model associated with ads shown in replies to a Creator Revenue Sharing model. X describes the current program as money earned by creating content on X. Its calculation is influenced by engagement from Premium users with that content.

That is different from paying users a wage for participation. A Premium subscriber does not earn a guaranteed amount simply by liking a post, writing a reply, reposting content, or joining a conversation.

How the money flow works
Consider a simple example:
- Creator A meets X’s monetization requirements.
- Premium user B views or engages with Creator A’s post.
- That activity may contribute to the factors X uses to calculate Creator A’s earnings.
- Premium user B is not automatically paid for the interaction.
A reply can itself be content published by the replying account, so an eligible creator might earn from engagement on that reply. But X does not publish a guaranteed payment for each reply, like, repost, or conversation. The original poster also does not automatically receive money every time a Premium user replies.
What counts as qualifying engagement?
X says earnings are influenced by more than a raw count of interactions. The stated factors include:
- Verified Home Timeline impressions: impressions from verified users in the Home timeline carry weight.
- Viewer type: X gives Premium+ views more value than Basic views as an example, but it does not publish a universal multiplier that applies to every post.
- Content format: different formats may be weighted differently.
Therefore, there is no reliable public formula such as “one cent per like” or “a fixed amount per reply.” A post with many low-value actions may earn less than content with fewer but more heavily weighted impressions.
Who can receive Creator Revenue Sharing payments?
Premium alone is not enough. X currently lists these requirements for access to Creator Revenue Sharing:
Rank #2
- An active Premium, Premium Business, or Premium Organizations subscription.
- At least 5 million organic impressions during the previous three months.
- At least 500 verified followers.
- Residence in a country supported by the program.
- Compliance with the X User Agreement and applicable monetization standards.
Eligible creators must also connect a Stripe payout account and complete identity verification. A checkmark or a Premium subscription does not prove that an account meets every monetization condition.
How and when payouts work
X currently says payments are processed every two weeks, with a minimum payout of $30, through Stripe. An amount shown as earned in a dashboard is not necessarily cash already received. Verification, payment processing, supported-country rules, reversals, account suspensions, and policy reviews can affect whether funds are paid.
X’s terms also allow it to modify or cancel the program and change the payment calculation structure. Treat the program as variable platform income—not as a fixed-rate job or guaranteed return.
Does Premium make financial sense?
For U.S. web customers, X currently lists these prices:
| Tier | Monthly | Annual |
|---|---|---|
| Basic | $3 | $32 |
| Premium | $8 | $84 |
| Premium+ | $40 | $395 |
Prices can vary by country, taxes, platform, and payment method. More importantly, there is no official promise that Creator Revenue Sharing will exceed the subscription cost. The 5-million-impression and 500-verified-follower requirements are substantial, and X does not publish a stable rate that lets a typical user calculate a guaranteed break-even point.
Premium is a more defensible purchase when its non-monetary features are valuable to you and you would be comfortable paying even if you earned nothing. It is a poor fit for someone seeking passive income or expecting immediate payments after subscribing.
Authentic discussion is not the same as engagement farming
Genuine networking—reading posts, adding useful replies, and having real conversations—is different from manufacturing activity to trigger payouts.
Riskier practices include:
- “Like-for-like” or “reply-for-reply” circles.
- Paying people to like, comment, follow, unfollow, or repost.
- Bots, scripts, or automated reply systems.
- Repetitive low-value posting designed primarily to generate qualifying actions.
X’s Monetization Standards prohibit artificial engagement and platform manipulation. Its Developer Policy also says services must not compensate people to take actions on X, including posts, follows, unfollows, reposts, likes, comments, and replies.
Rank #4
Under its Creator Revenue Sharing Terms, X can withhold, adjust, or suspend payments when it believes activity has been manipulated or artificially inflated. Engagement circles are therefore not an approved monetization strategy; they can put both reach and payouts at risk.
Policy violations can end eligibility
X can suspend a creator from revenue sharing for violations involving authenticity, safety, privacy, platform manipulation, or other monetization rules. X’s current help page also says that, effective March 3, 2026, posting AI-generated videos of an armed conflict without the required disclosure can result in a 90-day suspension from Creator Revenue Sharing; subsequent violations can permanently eliminate further payments.
Creators should also account for local tax and reporting obligations. X’s program pages do not establish one universal tax treatment, so consult a qualified tax professional about your situation.

Creator Revenue Sharing versus Creator Subscriptions
Creator Subscriptions work differently. Instead of relying primarily on X’s internal calculation of qualifying engagement, a creator offers subscription benefits and receives payments from fans. X says creators can choose from available monthly price points and may earn up to approximately 97% of gross subscription revenue before applicable deductions, with different treatment after $50,000 in lifetime X monetization earnings, as described in its Creator Dashboard information.
Best Value
Subscriptions may be more predictable for a creator with a loyal paying audience, while Creator Revenue Sharing depends on reach, viewer type, content format, and X’s changing formula. Neither should be treated as guaranteed income.
A practical decision checklist
Before buying Premium for monetization, ask:
- Do I already create content that attracts substantial organic reach?
- Can I plausibly reach 5 million organic impressions in three months and maintain 500 verified followers?
- Is the program available where I live, and can I complete Stripe identity verification?
- Would I still want Premium for its other features if I earned nothing?
- Can I avoid automation, spam, repetitive posting, and paid engagement schemes?
- Am I prepared for variable income, policy reviews, possible reversals, and program changes?
Do not use another creator’s payout screenshot as a forecast. Individual results do not establish a general rate, and X does not publish a permanent dollar value for an impression or interaction.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does X pay users for every reply or like?
No. X does not publish a guaranteed payment per reply, like, repost, or impression. Eligible creators may earn based on qualifying engagement with their content.

Potentially, if the reply is treated as the creator’s content, attracts qualifying engagement, and the account meets all program requirements. Writing the reply alone does not trigger an automatic payment.
Is X Premium a guaranteed investment?
No. Premium is an eligibility prerequisite for Creator Revenue Sharing, not a guarantee of access, earnings, or a return greater than the subscription price.
