If you choose to tip, it is a separate payment—by cash or, where available, through an Uber tipping option.
What the Uber fare covers—and what it does not
Uber Help states that “the trip fare charged to your payment account does not include a gratuity.” In other words, the fare is the charge for the ride; a tip is not automatically added to it. [Uber Help: Can my driver ask for a tip?]

Uber lists fare components such as base fare, time, distance, surge pricing when applicable, and tolls when applicable for UberX upfront pricing. Rates vary by city and vehicle option. A gratuity is separate from those fare components. [Uber Help: UberX Upfront pricing]
Do you have to tip your Uber driver?

How can you tip, and how is it charged?
Depending on availability for your market and trip, Uber lists cash, the app, riders.uber.com, and the emailed trip receipt as possible ways to tip. The precise options and screens may differ; consult the trip or receipt for the choices available to you. [Uber Help: Paying with cash]
For an electronic tip, Uber says the charge typically uses the payment method used for the fare. If a business voucher paid for the ride, the voucher does not cover the tip; an electronic tip is charged to the rider’s personal payment method. Why the final fare may differ from the upfront quote
An upfront fare is an estimate based on factors including distance, historical traffic patterns, and surge. Uber says it may adjust the fare after significant trip changes or material delays—for example, a significant pickup or drop-off change, multiple stops, or a trip that takes materially longer than estimated.
