What the official sources confirm—and what they do not
Pi Network’s geographic-access FAQ says its communications service and cryptocurrency transactions are provided where permitted under applicable laws and regulations. The FAQ, dated September 28, 2022, does not name China or identify a list of restricted locations. Pi also cautions that laws and regulations can change frequently. OKX’s US risk disclosure, last updated June 18, 2026, describes location-based limits on OKX services and says some restrictions may depend on the product. It is a general disclosure, not confirmation of a PI-specific ban in China. Read OKX’s US risk disclosure.
- Confirmed: Pi describes legal limits on geographic availability, and OKX describes jurisdiction- and product-dependent service restrictions.
- Not confirmed by these sources: that OKX specifically barred PI trading in China or the other regions referenced in the headline.
Without the exact OKX notice behind that claim, its date, applicable OKX entity, country list, and covered product cannot be verified. A general restriction on an exchange service should not be treated as proof of a PI-specific restriction.

What OKX announced about PI trading
On February 12, 2025, OKX announced that PI/USDT spot trading was scheduled to begin on February 20, 2025. The notice cautioned that the information might not apply to all customers, so the announcement does not establish that the market was available to every user or in every location. In that same announcement, OKX reported more than 60 million engaged Pi users, over 19 million users identity-verified through Pi’s native KYC solution, and over 10 million users migrated to Mainnet. Those are figures reported by OKX on February 12, 2025, not independently verified user counts.

“Ahead of Mainnet launch” needs a date and a milestone
Pi Network’s terminology makes the headline’s timing ambiguous. Its FAQ says Enclosed Mainnet launched on December 28, 2021. In that stage, Pi described the Mainnet as live but separated from external connectivity by a firewall. Pi described Open Network as the later period when external connectivity would be permitted. Because OKX’s PI/USDT announcement came in February 2025, it did not precede the December 2021 launch of Enclosed Mainnet. The sources reviewed here do not establish which milestone the headline means by “Mainnet launch.” Naming the specific stage and date avoids treating distinct network phases as one event.

Pi’s exchange-listing warning was a dated statement
In a December 29, 2022 announcement, Pi Network said it had not approved exchange listings during the then-current Enclosed Network period and warned users about purported third-party listings. That statement documents Pi’s position at that time; it should not be read as a current listing-status update. Read Pi Network’s December 2022 announcement.
Pi’s FAQ about Mainnet use describes activity within the enclosed environment and says external apps and organizations could connect during the Open Network period. How to check whether PI trading is available to you
- Identify the service. Check whether you mean centralized spot trading, derivatives, P2P, or another OKX product. A restriction on one product does not by itself establish a restriction on all OKX services.
- Identify the OKX entity and your jurisdiction. OKX’s US disclosure is specific to US services; it is not a complete global list of PI availability. Use the applicable official terms or notice for your location.
- Check the date and scope of the notice. Confirm that it names PI, the relevant country or region, and the specific product. Do not infer a PI-specific ban from a general geographic risk disclosure.
- Distinguish exchange access from Pi Network access. A trading-market limitation at an exchange is not the same as Pi Network blocking access to its app or network.
Availability can change as laws, policies, and exchange offerings change. The material cited here does not provide a complete country-by-country list of places where PI spot trading is currently available.
