Deadline described the total as a record for a trailer for a new broadcast television show—not a television ratings record or a record covering every kind of TV trailer.
What record did the Doctor Odyssey trailer set?
Deadline reported that the trailer reached 77.8 million views during its first 48 hours. The publication characterized that figure as a record for a trailer for a new broadcast television show. That wording matters: the claim concerns trailer views within a specific category, not the number of people who watched an episode or the show’s eventual audience.

Where did the reported views come from?
Deadline attributed 38.8 million views to ABC’s official TikTok account and 23 million to Facebook. Those two platform figures account for 61.8 million of the reported 77.8 million total; the report did not identify the remaining views in the material available here.
How does it compare with the previous record?
Deadline said the trailer for This Is Us had reached a similar total, but over 11 days. The comparison is between reported trailer views over different periods: 48 hours for Doctor Odyssey and 11 days for This Is Us. It does not establish a comparison of episode ratings or broader television-trailer records.
