Not always. Best Buy says its goal is to deliver preorders on or around the release date, but it does not promise release-day arrival for every order. For software and video games sent by ground, Best Buy says delivery should take 3–5 business days after release; in rare cases, it may take up to 10 days. Check the specific product page for its current delivery estimate and pickup options before ordering.
What Best Buy’s release-day wording means
Best Buy says it tries to ship preorders as soon as they arrive at its fulfillment centers and aims to deliver them on or around the actual release date. Timing depends on the product and fulfillment method. Best Buy’s specific estimate of 3–5 business days after release, with rare cases taking up to 10 days, applies to software and video games shipped by ground. It should not be treated as the delivery estimate for every type of preorder. Best Buy says music preorders usually arrive near their scheduled date, but does not give the same numeric window for them.

How to check your preorder’s expected date
- Open the product page and look at the delivery estimate and whether store pickup is offered. Preorder availability and fulfillment details can differ by item.
- When ordering, review the shipping method and expected date shown at checkout. If one-day or two-day shipping is offered, treat it as a paid faster-shipping option, not a release-day promise.
- After placing the order, check your Best Buy account’s order status for the current expected date.
- Watch for Best Buy emails about order-detail changes. Best Buy says it sends an email if a detail such as the release date changes.
Why a preorder date can change
Best Buy says suppliers provide release dates and may change them without notice. The retailer says it updates its site when it receives a date change, so the date you first saw may not remain current. Check the product page and your order updates rather than relying only on the original listing.
If receiving the item on release day is essential, use store pickup only if the product page offers it and shows a release-day pickup date. Best Buy’s policy says eligible pickup orders are available on or after release day; shipping—even a paid faster option—is not described in the FAQ as a guaranteed way to receive every preorder that day.
