That is a mixed result, not enough on its own to show whether the shares are attractively valued. The reported price moves also vary by date and exchange: coverage recorded a 1.90% decline at the prior Saturday NSE close and a later intraday BSE low that was 3.3% below the reference price, not a verified 4% closing fall.
What happened to DMart shares after Q2 results?
The “4%” headline should not be read as a confirmed closing loss. The Economic Times reported on October 12, 2026, that the shares fell as much as 3.3% to an intraday BSE low of ₹3,405. Separate October 10 coverage recorded a 1.90% decline at the prior Saturday NSE close. These are different market snapshots; the sources do not verify a precise 4% fall at the close. Because share prices move, check a current exchange quote before acting.

The results were for the quarter ended September 30, 2026. Avenue Supermarts’ October 3 company update gave standalone revenue from operations of ₹19,206.18 crore, compared with ₹16,218.79 crore a year earlier, and reported 518 stores at quarter end. The company said the standalone revenue figure was subject to limited review by its statutory auditors. Those figures are standalone and should not be mixed with the later consolidated results. Business Standard’s October 10 coverage reported the consolidated figures.
What the Q2 FY27 results show
Consolidated revenue and net profit both grew year on year, but profit growth was slower than sales growth. The reported margin declines help explain why investors and analysts could focus on profitability rather than revenue alone.
#1 Best Overall
| Measure | Q2 FY27 | Year-earlier comparison | Basis and source |
|---|---|---|---|
| Revenue | ₹19,644 crore | Up 17.8% year on year | Consolidated; Avenue Supermarts results reported by Business Standard, 2026. |
| Net profit | ₹742.98 crore | Up 8.5% year on year | Consolidated; Avenue Supermarts results reported by Business Standard, 2026. |
| EBITDA | ₹1,393 crore | Up 14.7% year on year | Consolidated; Avenue Supermarts results reported by Business Standard, 2026. |
| EBITDA margin | 7.1% | 7.3% | Consolidated; Avenue Supermarts results reported by The Economic Times, 2026. |
| PAT margin | 3.8% | 4.1% | Consolidated; Avenue Supermarts results reported by The Economic Times, 2026. |
| Basic EPS | ₹11.40 | ₹10.53 | Avenue Supermarts results reported by The Economic Times, 2026. |
Revenue growth of 17.8% alongside net-profit growth of 8.5% means earnings did not keep pace with sales in the quarter. The margin figures point in the same direction: EBITDA margin was down 0.2 percentage points and PAT margin down 0.3 percentage points year on year. These results show pressure in reported profitability, but one quarter does not establish whether it is temporary or persistent.
Why margins and execution drew attention
Business Standard reported brokerage concerns about margin pressure, rising costs, and intensifying quick-commerce competition. Those are analysts’ interpretations of the results and market conditions, not a company-confirmed explanation for the share move.

Profitability and financing costs
Business Standard reported that Motilal Oswal estimated standalone PAT at about ₹800 crore, around 7% below its estimate, and standalone profit margin at 4.2%, down 0.4 percentage points. The brokerage attributed the decline mainly to higher interest costs and lower other income as store expansion required more borrowing. This is the brokerage’s analysis, not a verified management explanation.

Elara Capital, as reported by Business Standard, cited weaker new-store throughput and a 28-basis-point year-on-year EBITDA-margin decline as concerns. PL Capital was reported to have downgraded its view from Hold to Reduce, citing quick-commerce competition and pressure to pass through commodity inflation. The company update’s 518-store count documents expansion, but store count alone says nothing conclusive about sales productivity or the returns earned on new stores.

The Economic Times reported that Motilal Oswal was Neutral and said discounting and customer-acquisition intensity could weigh on growth and margins over the medium term. Nuvama was reported at Hold after lowering its target, citing wage inflation and other expenses; it cut PAT estimates while modestly raising revenue estimates. These are analyst views about risks, not proof that competition or costs caused a specific daily share-price move. The Economic Times’ October 12 report covered the share move and brokerage commentary.
What analysts’ ratings and targets can—and cannot—tell you
Recent coverage described differing brokerage positions rather than a unanimous verdict. Business Standard reported Elara Capital maintaining Accumulate while cutting its FY28–FY29 EPS estimates by 4–5% and lowering its target from ₹4,700 to ₹4,200. It also reported PL Capital downgrading from Hold to Reduce. The Economic Times reported Motilal Oswal at Neutral with a ₹3,925 target and Nuvama at Hold, with its target reduced to ₹3,784 from ₹4,174.

The available results support a mixed operating picture, but do not establish that DMart shares are cheap or suitable for any particular investor. A more useful assessment compares the company’s prospects with the price you would pay and the risks you can tolerate.
Best Value
- It can be a gift option
- Comes with secure packaging
- Helpful in various ways
- Compare sales and earnings growth. Check whether future EBITDA and profit can grow in line with or faster than sales, and whether the latest margin declines stabilize or continue.
- Separate existing-store performance from expansion. The 518-store count and standalone revenue growth show scale and expansion, but do not establish same-store growth, new-store throughput, or returns on invested capital.
- Test the economics of expansion. Consider the capital and borrowing required to open stores, the time they need to mature, and whether their eventual returns justify the investment.
- Evaluate competition and pricing power. Assess whether DMart can retain customers and protect margins while facing quick-commerce competition, wage inflation, and pressure to pass on commodity costs.
- Value a range of outcomes. Compare the current share price with earnings scenarios that account for different growth, margin, and store-return assumptions. Use a current price and clearly dated forecasts; the reported brokerage targets are not a substitute for that work.
- Match the decision to your horizon and risk capacity. A short-term reaction to one quarterly report is different from a long-term investment case, and neither determines whether a position is appropriate for you.
The quarter is not a contraction in headline revenue or profit, but margins narrowed and earnings grew more slowly than sales. Whether that combination represents an opportunity depends on valuation and on whether the business can sustain profitable growth; the figures and analyst opinions cited here do not answer that question by themselves.
