Did Trump Threaten Mark Zuckerberg With Prison? What His July 2024 Truth Social Post Said

A dated tracker and AP reporting describe Trump’s July 2024 Truth Social threat involving Mark Zuckerberg, while distinguishing it from a later book passage.

Yes. A dated threat tracker records that Donald Trump’s July 9, 2024, Truth Social post threatened to pursue election fraudsters and send them to prison, and says Mark Zuckerberg was named. The Associated Press separately reported that Trump warned Zuckerberg, “ZUCKERBUCKS, be careful!” The reviewed sources do not provide a complete, authenticated copy of the original post, so its wording should be attributed to those reports rather than presented as independently verified text.

What did Trump say about Zuckerberg on Truth Social?

Just Security’s threat tracker dates the post to July 9, 2024, and describes Trump as threatening to pursue “Election Fraudsters at levels never seen before” and send them to “prison for long periods of time.” The tracker identifies Zuckerberg among the people named. The Associated Press reported the shorter warning, “ZUCKERBUCKS, be careful!” in the same broader election-fraud context.

Those are source-attributed accounts of the message. The sources reviewed here do not include a complete, authenticated copy of the original Truth Social post, so longer quotations should be understood as wording recorded by the tracker, not as an independently authenticated transcript.

What was the background to the threat?

February 2023: an earlier accusation

Just Security’s tracker says Trump accused Zuckerberg of election fraud in a February 2023 Truth Social post and asked why he was not being prosecuted. That was Trump’s allegation; it is not evidence that Zuckerberg committed election fraud.

Early 2023: Facebook restored Trump’s account

The Associated Press reported that Facebook restored Trump’s account in early 2023 after suspending it following the January 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol. AP also reported that Zuckerberg did not endorse a candidate in the 2024 presidential campaign. These points provide context, but do not establish why Trump made the July 2024 threat.

How is the July post different from Trump’s book passage?

The July Truth Social post and the later book passage are separate episodes. AP reported that Trump threatened to imprison Zuckerberg in his 2024 book, Save America, published in September 2024. That book passage is not the July post, and the distinct formulation about imprisonment should not be attributed to the Truth Social message.

What happened afterward?

In early 2025, AP reported changes to Meta’s content-moderation policies and Trump’s response. Trump said the changes were “probably” due to his threats; that is his characterization, not independent evidence that the July 2024 post caused Meta’s later decisions.
