The figures below are historical snapshots, not live quotes; each belongs to a different date and reporting window.
There is no single verified crash date in the available reports
Coverage describes several distinct downturns between January 2025 and September 2026. TRUMP and MELANIA are memecoin tokens, separate assets from Bitcoin. Seeing their prices fall during a Bitcoin decline can indicate a shared risk-off market, but timing alone does not prove that Bitcoin caused their losses.
The reports do not provide a consistent, same-time dataset for all three assets. Their prices therefore cannot be compared as if they were measurements from one market snapshot.
What the dated reports say
| Date and source | Reported snapshot | What it establishes |
|---|---|---|
| January 21, 2025 — The Block | Bitcoin was down 4.3% to around $103,600 in early trading. | The report described TRUMP and MELANIA declines amid profit-taking and wider crypto-market uncertainty. It is a historical episode, not evidence of a later crash. |
| February 5, 2026 — Associated Press | Bitcoin was trading at $66,301 as of 2 p.m. ET, down about 11% that day. AP reported it was nearly half below its October 6, 2025 record high of $126,210.50, attributing the record figure to Coinbase. | This is a dated Bitcoin-market snapshot; it does not by itself establish what caused TRUMP or MELANIA to move. |
| February 9, 2026 — Fast Company | Bitcoin had recently fallen to nearly $60,000 before recovering toward $70,000. At the time of the article, TRUMP was $3.39 and MELANIA about $0.12. | These are article-time prices, not current quotes or a same-minute comparison with the Bitcoin low. |
| July 4, 2026 — The Block | Nansen analysis, as reported by The Block citing The New York Times, estimated that nearly one million wallets had combined losses of $3.81 billion through the end of June 2026. The report also described Bitcoin as roughly 50% below its October 2025 record. | The wallet-loss figure is an attributed estimate with a cutoff at the end of June, not a measure of losses for every holder or a live total. |
| September 16, 2026 — Protos | TRUMP and MELANIA were each reported more than 95% below their all-time highs. | This is a dated comparison reported by a secondary source; it is not a current price or a like-for-like measure of Bitcoin’s decline. |
Does Bitcoin’s drop explain the token declines?
No causal link is established by these reports. Bitcoin is a major crypto-market reference point, so its downturn may coincide with reduced appetite for riskier tokens. But correlation in timing is not proof of cause, and a token can also move for asset-specific reasons. In its January 2025 coverage, The Block cited profit-taking and broader market uncertainty alongside the declines.

- BITCOIN EXCLUSIVE, PHONE VERIFICATION: Bitkey is designed from the ground up exclusively for bitcoin — a dedicated hardware wallet for secure bitcoin storage. Approve transactions with a tap using your phone and NFC. No device screen is required.
- SELF-CUSTODY, NO EXCHANGE OR CUSTODIAN REQUIRED: You hold two of the three keys in the Bitkey system – one on your phone and one on your Bitkey device. The third is stored on Bitkey’s server and cannot move your bitcoin on its own.
- NO SEED PHRASE: Set up and use Bitkey without creating or storing a seed phrase.
- 2-of-3 MULTISIG: Three keys are stored separately across your phone, Bitkey device, and Bitkey’s server. Any two keys are required to move your bitcoin.
- BUILT-IN RECOVERY: Encrypted backup and recovery tools can help you regain access if you lose your phone or Bitkey device. You can also designate a Recovery Contact.
To test whether one asset led or drove another, an analyst would need comparable price series from the same exchange or data provider, aligned to the same time interval, plus a defined starting point and percentage change. The reports listed here do not supply that unified dataset.

How to read “crash” claims without mistaking old prices for live ones
- Check the timestamp. A price in a dated article describes that reporting snapshot, not today’s market.
- Check the reference point. “Down” may mean a fall over one day, from an intraday high, or from an all-time high. Those are different comparisons.
- Check the measurement window. An intraday low, a quoted time, and a daily close are not interchangeable.
- Separate estimated wallet losses from market value. Nansen’s reported figure concerns estimated combined wallet losses through a specified cutoff; it is not a real-time account balance or a guarantee of realized losses for all holders.
- Keep causation separate from coincidence. Simultaneous declines support describing a broader selloff, but not claiming Bitcoin caused the moves without further evidence.
