Yes. Stellantis confirmed in April 2025 that it asked McKinsey for views on how newly announced U.S. tariffs affected Alfa Romeo and Maserati. Bloomberg also reported, citing unnamed sources, that the work considered broader strategic options, including technology partnerships and a possible long-term separation of Maserati. Stellantis did not confirm those additional details, and the available company statements do not establish that either brand was sold or that a sale was approved.
What did Stellantis confirm about McKinsey?
On April 8, 2025, Bloomberg reported that Stellantis had hired McKinsey for strategic advice involving Maserati and Alfa Romeo as U.S. tariff pressure increased. Stellantis’ spokesperson confirmed a narrower assignment: McKinsey had been asked to provide its considerations on recently announced U.S. tariffs affecting the two brands, and the spokesperson declined further comment. Bloomberg’s report was carried by Bloomberg Línea and attributed its broader account to people familiar with the matter.
Those unnamed sources said chairman John Elkann had asked McKinsey to evaluate options, including partnerships that could provide access to new technologies. They described separating Maserati from Stellantis as a possible long-term scenario. These were reported possibilities—not company-confirmed decisions or established McKinsey recommendations.
Is Maserati being sold or separated from Stellantis?
The cited reporting does not establish a sale, an approved separation, or the selection of a buyer. Stellantis CEO Antonio Filosa addressed the brand-portfolio question during the company’s February 26, 2026, full-year results call. Asked whether Maserati would remain in the group after a strategic portfolio review, he said details on Maserati and the wider portfolio would be presented at Investor Day. His answer did not announce a sale, separation, or retention decision. The company’s investor-events page is the relevant official source for event materials.

Stellantis later described a plan to strengthen Maserati as a luxury brand, but did not say that this plan was a result of McKinsey’s work. The company’s May 2026 announcement therefore offers a view of its stated direction at that time, not proof of what McKinsey advised.
What did Stellantis say about Maserati’s future?
In its FaSTLAne 2030 plan, announced May 21, 2026, Stellantis said it intended to strengthen Maserati’s future as a luxury brand with two new E-segment vehicles. The company said it would present a detailed Maserati roadmap in Modena in December 2026. That date was still in the future as of the company’s May announcement; the cited statements do not disclose the roadmap’s eventual contents. Stellantis’ FaSTLAne 2030 announcement also described four global brands with the greatest scale and profitability potential, five regional brands including Alfa Romeo, and specialty-brand arrangements for DS and Lancia.

How does Stellantis’ 2025 reset fit into the story?
On February 26, 2026, Stellantis announced a company-wide business reset and reported approximately €22.2 billion in charges for the second half of 2025. The company said the charges reflected, among other things, product-plan realignment, resizing the EV supply chain, and operational changes. It expected approximately €6.5 billion in cash payments over four years. These are company-reported figures and expectations, not independent forecasts. Stellantis did not attribute the reset or its costs to McKinsey’s work on Maserati and Alfa Romeo. The company’s reset announcement describes its rationale and accounting.

- McKinsey’s final findings and whether it recommended any specific course.
- Whether Stellantis selected a partner or buyer for either brand.
- Whether any 2026 brand plans resulted from the 2025 engagement.
- The eventual contents of Maserati’s detailed roadmap announced as forthcoming in December 2026.
The distinction matters: the tariff-related request is what Stellantis confirmed; the broader options were reported through unnamed sources; and the later brand plans were announced by Stellantis without connecting them to McKinsey.
