Sharp identifies Hon Hai Precision Industry Co., Ltd. (Foxconn) as its parent company. As of March 31, 2026, Hon Hai and its wholly owned subsidiary together held 34.1% of Sharp’s voting rights. That is a substantial position, but it is not a majority—and Sharp’s filing identifies Hon Hai as listed on the Taiwan Stock Exchange, not as a mainland Chinese company.
Who owns Sharp?
Sharp’s controlling-shareholder disclosure names Hon Hai Precision Industry Co., Ltd., widely known as Foxconn, as Sharp’s parent company. The filing, dated June 23, 2026, reports that Hon Hai directly held 22.3% of Sharp’s voting rights as of March 31, 2026. Foxconn (Far East) Limited, a wholly owned Hon Hai subsidiary, held a further 11.8%. Together, the direct and indirect holdings amounted to 34.1% of voting rights.

Sharp’s shareholder table gives a complementary share-ownership view for the same date. It lists Hon Hai with 22.32% of shares, Foxconn (Far East) Limited with 11.81%, and Foxconn Technology Pte. Ltd. with 9.96%. Those are reported shareholdings; they should not be substituted for the filing’s 34.1% combined voting-rights figure.
Did Sharp “sell out” or lose majority ownership?
Sharp formally describes Hon Hai as its parent, but the cited filing reports that Hon Hai’s direct and indirect position represented 34.1% of voting rights—not more than half. Parent-company status and majority ownership are different facts, so the designation does not mean Hon Hai held a majority of Sharp’s votes on March 31, 2026.

The figures establish the disclosed relationship and stake on that date. They do not establish whether any later share transaction took place. Sharp’s investor-relations index includes later 2026 notices and results, but that index alone is not proof of a subsequent ownership change.
Is Sharp owned by a Chinese company?
The word “China” in the question can imply a mainland Chinese buyer, but Sharp’s disclosure names Hon Hai and lists the company on the Taiwan Stock Exchange. The filing supports identifying Sharp’s parent as Hon Hai (Foxconn); it does not support describing the parent as a mainland Chinese company simply on the basis of that headline. This is a clarification of the corporate identity and listing in Sharp’s filing, not a broader geopolitical analysis.
How to read Sharp’s ownership percentages
| Figure | What it measures | Date and source |
|---|---|---|
| 22.32% | Hon Hai’s direct shareholding in Sharp | March 31, 2026; Sharp shareholder table: Sharp shareholder information |
| 11.81% | Shares held by Foxconn (Far East) Limited | March 31, 2026; Sharp shareholder table: Sharp shareholder information |
| 9.96% | Shares held by Foxconn Technology Pte. Ltd. | March 31, 2026; Sharp shareholder table: Sharp shareholder information |
| 34.1% | Voting rights held directly by Hon Hai and indirectly through Foxconn (Far East) Limited, combined | As of March 31, 2026; Sharp’s June 23, 2026 controlling-shareholder disclosure: Sharp investor-relations disclosure library |
| 74.52% | Aggregate shareholding attributed to foreign shareholders; not one shareholder’s stake | March 31, 2026; Sharp shareholder information: Sharp shareholder information |
The 34.1% number combines voting rights, while the shareholder table reports shares held by individual listed holders. The percentages are not interchangeable, and the table’s separate company entries should not be casually added to claim one person or entity owns the resulting total. Sharp also reports that foreign shareholders collectively held 74.52% of shares. That aggregate is not evidence that any single foreign investor owned that amount.

Do recent Sharp notices show a new sale?
Sharp’s investor-relations index includes a notice dated February 10, 2026, about a planned merger involving a wholly owned subsidiary, with April 1, 2026 set as the planned effective date. That is an internal restructuring notice, not an announcement that Sharp was sold to a new parent. Sharp’s FAQ also says, “Sharp Corporation has abolished Sharp’s Takeover Defense Plan.” That governance statement does not establish that a new sale occurred.

Sharp’s investor-relations index lists 2026 disclosures, including first-quarter FY2026 results posted August 7, 2026. The existence of newer company notices does not update the ownership figures by itself. The latest figures cited here are specifically dated March 31, 2026; a claim about an ownership change after that date requires a newer issuer filing or shareholder disclosure.
What the filings establish—and what they do not
- Established: Sharp identified Hon Hai Precision Industry Co., Ltd. as its parent and reported a combined direct and indirect 34.1% voting-rights position as of March 31, 2026.
- Not established by those figures: That Hon Hai held a majority of Sharp’s voting rights on that date, or that a sale took place after that date.
- Not inferable from the shareholder table alone: The beneficial owners behind every nominee or trust-account holding.
For a new ownership claim, check Sharp’s investor-relations disclosure library and shareholder information for a filing with a date later than March 31, 2026.
