Rod Stewart’s catalog sale was reported at nearly $100 million, not a publicly confirmed exact price. On February 15, 2024, Axios reported that Stewart sold interests in his publishing catalog and recorded music, along with some name and likeness rights, to Irving Azoff’s Iconic Artists Group. The sources reporting the deal do not disclose its contract terms or establish that every right to every work transferred.
Who bought Rod Stewart’s music rights, and for how much?
The buyer named in the reports was Iconic Artists Group, led by chairman and CEO Irving Azoff. Axios attributed the nearly $100 million figure to Stewart’s spokesman; Music Week and The Independent also characterized the amount as nearly or almost $100 million. The exact contract price has not been publicly established in these sources.

What rights were included?
Reports describe the transaction as covering Stewart’s interests in his publishing catalog and recorded music, plus some name and likeness rights. Those categories are distinct: publishing interests relate to compositions, while recorded-music interests relate to recordings. The available reporting does not establish that all rights in every song or recording transferred, or specify the territories, duration, royalty base, or allocation of value among the rights.

#1 Best Overall
- Rod Stewart wrote the book on lead singers as rock stars go in the late '60s and early '70s fronting The Jeff Beck Group, Faces, and currently as a solo artist. His rooster-shag hairdo, sandpaper vocals, mike-stand-twirling onstage swagger, and offstage ribaldry - not to mention his gift for songwriting from ballsy rockers to hilarious story-songs to sensitive-guy ballads - are the stuff that this rock legend is made of. Rod's string of hit singles and multi-platinum albums remains unbroken to this day. The Voice: The Very Best Of Rod Stewart spins 16 Rod the Mod classics from his Warner Bros. albums and cross-licensed to include "Maggie May" and "You Wear It Well" from his Mercur
Iconic’s page, which reproduces Wall Street Journal reporting, describes the publishing, recorded-music, and name-and-likeness interests. It does not provide the signed contract or a complete rights schedule.
How the reported deal fits Stewart’s career
Music Week described the Iconic arrangement as a wide-ranging, cross-media partnership intended to develop Stewart’s musical legacy for new generations. It also reported that a proposed deal with Hipgnosis fell through in May 2023; Hipgnosis was not the buyer in the reported Iconic transaction.

- STEWART ROD SOME GUYS HAVE ALL THE LUCK (2CD)
As context, Music Week reproduced figures attributed to Iconic Artists Group: Stewart had 10 U.K. number-one albums and 31 U.K. top-ten singles, six of which reached number one. In the U.S., the figures were 17 top-ten albums, four reaching number one, and 16 top-ten singles. The Independent separately described Stewart as having 10 number-one albums across six consecutive decades. These are published career figures, not an independently re-audited chart analysis.
Stewart told The Wall Street Journal by email, in a statement reproduced by Axios: “Irving and I are a couple of old-timers and I believe we have a mutual respect and admiration for each other. My life’s work is in safe hands with him.” Music Week also reproduced Stewart’s statement that the timing felt right as he marked 60 years in the music industry, and Azoff’s welcome to him as a new member of the Iconic family. These remarks express the parties’ views; they do not explain the contract’s financial or legal terms.

What the reports do not establish
- The exact amount paid and how it was allocated across publishing, recorded music, and name-and-likeness interests.
- The royalty base, territories, duration, or whether Stewart sold all or only some relevant interests.
- A valuation method or the transaction’s full signed terms.
Those details should remain open rather than be inferred from the headline figure. Catalog transactions can cover different bundles of rights, so headline prices are not directly comparable unless the assets, territories, ownership interests, and disclosure basis are also understood.
