No. Mike Ashley was reported to have made an offer during Sheffield Wednesday’s administration sale process, but he did not buy the club. Arise Capital Partners LLC completed the takeover on 2 May 2026, and the EFL waived a potential 15-point deduction tied to the club’s exit from administration. Wednesday had already lost 18 points during the 2025/26 season through separate sanctions.
Did Mike Ashley buy Sheffield Wednesday?
No. The BBC reported in March 2026 that Ashley was understood to be among those who had made an offer. That was a reported bid, not a completed purchase: the club named Arise Capital Partners as its preferred bidder on 10–11 March, and the sale later completed to Arise.
On 2 May 2026, the EFL confirmed that Arise Capital Partners LLC, a consortium led by David Storch alongside Michael Storch and Tom Costin, had completed the takeover. The EFL also confirmed that Wednesday was no longer regarded as being in administration. BBC: Mike Ashley among bidders understood to have made an offer; Sheffield Wednesday: preferred bidder announcement; EFL: takeover completion and points decision.
What happened to the 15-point deduction?
The EFL did not impose the additional 15-point deduction that had been a concern in connection with Wednesday’s exit from administration. It said it had exercised its discretion under its Insolvency Policy and, after considering proposals made to former owner Dejphon Chansiri by the administrators and the new owners, decided a further sanction was not appropriate. EFL statement, 2 May 2026.

How the 12-, 18- and 15-point figures differ
The figures describe different decisions, not one combined punishment. The 18-point figure was Wednesday’s season total as reported by the EFL in December 2025; it included the 12-point administration deduction and a separate six-point sanction. The later 15-point figure was prospective and was waived when the club exited administration.
