Did Michael Saylor Hint at More Strategy Bitcoin Buying? What the October 5 Filing Shows

Strategy reported STRC repurchases for September 28–30 and October 1–4, plus 334 BTC acquired in early October. Here’s what Saylor’s tracker post did—and did not—confirm.

Yes—Michael Saylor’s “More orange than ever” post pointed readers to Strategy’s Bitcoin acquisition tracker, but the post did not prove a purchase. Strategy’s October 5, 2026 Form 8-K later confirmed that it bought 334 BTC for $28.7 million from October 1 through October 4, while also repurchasing 740,634 STRC shares for $73.7 million. The filing separately shows that Strategy repurchased STRC during September 28–30 but bought no Bitcoin in those final three days of September.

What Saylor’s post did—and did not—confirm

The Block reported that Strategy Executive Chairman Michael Saylor posted “More orange than ever” alongside the company’s Bitcoin acquisition tracker on the Sunday before the October 5 filing. That was a signal, not transaction evidence: the post itself did not disclose quantities, prices, or completed trades. Strategy’s subsequent Form 8-K, filed with the SEC on October 5, reported purchases through October 4. The Block’s report on the post and the SEC filing serve different purposes; use the filing for the transaction figures.

The latest primary disclosure covered here is the October 5 filing. It establishes what Strategy reported buying through October 4, not what it may have bought afterward or what it will buy next.

What Strategy reported buying back and buying in Bitcoin

The filing separates the last three days of September from the first four days of October. That distinction resolves the apparent overlap in the headline: STRC repurchases occurred at September’s end, while the reported Bitcoin purchase came in October.

Period Bitcoin acquired STRC shares repurchased Reported funding details
September 28–30, 2026 None reported 1,033,168 shares for $102.6 million $80.4 million from USD Cash and $22.2 million from interest earned on cash, cash equivalents, and short-term investments
October 1–4, 2026 334 BTC for $28.7 million; average $85,838.80 per BTC, including fees and expenses 740,634 shares for $73.7 million The filing says October 1–4 STRC repurchases used USD Cash; it also reports $13.0 million of USD Cash used for Bitcoin purchases

These are company-reported historical transactions, not a current quote or market valuation. As of October 4, Strategy reported 848,000 BTC holdings, an aggregate purchase price of $63.97 billion, and an average purchase price of $75,440.70.

How the September-to-October pattern fits together

The October 5 filing provides a narrow date slice, not a complete account of September. Earlier reports show Strategy was also active in the preceding weeks:

  • For September 21–27, Strategy acquired 1,665 BTC for approximately $142.7 million at an average $85,681. The Block reported 1,534,530 STRC shares repurchased for around $151.7 million, with STRC funding split between $103.5 million from MSTR sales and $48.1 million from USD Cash. The Block’s September 28 report.

Those earlier weekly disclosures help explain why a later tracker post attracted attention, but they should not be merged with the September 28–30 or October 1–4 figures. The October 5 filing is the primary source for those later periods.

Where the repurchase and Bitcoin-purchase cash came from

Strategy distinguishes between two pools of dollars in the October 5 filing. It describes the USD Reserve as intended to support dividends on preferred stock and interest on indebtedness. USD Cash is maintained for broader Bitcoin Treasury Company purposes, which may include Bitcoin purchases, expanding the reserve, and capital management. From September 28 through October 4, the filing reports $142.5 million of USD Reserve used for preferred dividends and debt interest.

Across October 1–4, the filing reports $154.1 million of USD Cash used for STRC repurchases and $13.0 million for Bitcoin purchases. The $73.7 million October 1–4 STRC amount and the $13.0 million Bitcoin amount are components of that broader reported cash use, not separate funding pools. For September 28–30, the filing identifies $80.4 million in USD Cash and $22.2 million in earned interest as sources for the STRC repurchases.

As of October 4, Strategy reported a $4.88 billion USD Reserve and $833.4 million in USD Cash. It reported $620.9 million of preferred-stock repurchase capacity remaining at September 30 and $547.2 million at October 4; the separate $1.0 billion MSTR common-stock repurchase authorization remained unused. The filing’s dollar-pool descriptions explain the company’s stated allocation framework; they do not guarantee future transactions.

What STRC means

STRC is Strategy’s Variable Rate Series A Perpetual Stretch Preferred Stock, as identified in the SEC filing. The shares are preferred stock, not a bond or a guaranteed deposit product. A repurchase is a company buyback of its own preferred shares; it is distinct from buying Bitcoin and from paying dividends.

Why Strategy may allocate cash among these uses

In a June 29, 2026 capital-framework announcement, Strategy described a board-approved reserve policy, revised STRC dividend policy, digital-credit securities repurchase program, MSTR common-stock repurchase program, and BTC monetization program. The framework provides context for how the company may allocate capital among Bitcoin, securities repurchases, reserves, dividends, and interest obligations; it is policy and authorization, not a promise of a particular future purchase or buyback. Strategy also cautioned that outcomes can vary with Bitcoin prices and volatility, trading prices and liquidity of its securities, credit spreads and rates, capital-market and liquidity conditions, availability of funds for dividends, and legal restrictions on repurchases or Bitcoin monetization. It specifically warned that STRC may not trade within its targeted range or at any particular price. The announcement’s policy language should therefore not be read as a forecast of either investment returns or future repurchase activity.

What the filing can establish

The October 5 Form 8-K reports dated quantities, prices, funding sources, and balances through October 4. It does not establish later purchases. It also includes management-prepared third-quarter estimates that Strategy said its independent auditor had not audited or reviewed; those estimates are separate from the BTC and STRC transaction tables and should not be treated as audited results.
