The article attributed the account to unnamed people; it did not independently establish where Musk slept. A separate, later statement from Musk confirmed that he had sometimes slept in the White House Lincoln Bedroom at President Donald Trump’s invitation—not that he slept at DOGE offices.
What WIRED reported about Musk and DOGE headquarters
In a January 29, 2025, report, WIRED’s Zoë Schiffer wrote that Musk had told multiple people he was sleeping at the Department of Government Efficiency’s headquarters. WIRED located DOGE’s headquarters at the Eisenhower Executive Office Building, near the White House. The people who supplied the account were not named in the article. WIRED’s report
That is a report about what Musk allegedly told others, not a public confirmation from Musk that he slept in the DOGE offices. The distinction matters: the article’s attribution supports describing the claim as reported, but does not establish it as independently verified fact.
What Musk later said about the Lincoln Bedroom
WIRED separately reported that Musk told associates at an Alfalfa Club dinner he had also been invited to stay in the White House’s Lincoln Bedroom. WIRED’s account

On April 30, 2025, Musk said that in the administration’s first months he had worked on DOGE seven days a week and at times slept in the Lincoln Bedroom at Trump’s invitation, according to the Associated Press. AP also reported that Musk said he was scaling back his DOGE work to one or two days a week and expected to spend less time in Washington. Associated Press report, May 1, 2025
Musk’s later remarks corroborate the Lincoln Bedroom account. They do not confirm the separate report that he slept at DOGE headquarters.

Why reports about DOGE staff sleeping rooms are different
In March 2025, POLITICO’s E&E News reported that two unnamed career General Services Administration employees described at least four furnished sleeping rooms on the sixth floor of a GSA office building. The report mentioned IKEA beds, lamps and dressers, but concerned DOGE workers generally; it did not say Musk used those rooms. POLITICO’s E&E News report, March 7, 2025
An Axios summary published March 10 said it was unclear how often those sleeping spaces were used. Neither account establishes that the rooms were at DOGE headquarters or that Musk slept in them. Axios, March 10, 2025

- Reported: WIRED said Musk told multiple people he was sleeping at DOGE headquarters in the Eisenhower Executive Office Building.
- Not independently established by that report: Musk’s actual use of the DOGE offices as a place to sleep.
- Later acknowledged by Musk: He had at times slept in the White House Lincoln Bedroom at Trump’s invitation.
- A separate matter: March reporting described sleeping rooms for DOGE staff in a GSA office building, without establishing that Musk used them.
